Minimum 5 years max 20 for a videos of infants and a 10 year old bound and raped? Idk man, seems pretty lenient

Horrible stuff that makes my stomach turn but the article doesn’t indicate that he was actually in the videos, simply distributing.

The adults in the videos are animals that don’t even deserve a grave.

I just don’t understand how a person could be so dumb as to send something illegal, regardless of what it is, to a single person over telegram—which is clearly not a private method of communication. It’s obviously a cop.

I mean, it’s good he did because now he’s busted.

[–] Otakulad 18 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I've said this before, if not for dumb criminals, a lot more people would be out of jail for crimes.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If criminals tended towards intelligence, we'd need intelligent cops to stop them.

Its more that the smartest crooks are busy running our society and a justice system that actually tries to enact justice would get in the way of that.

which is clearly not a private method of communication.

When Telegram touts itself as secure encrypted communication and how it values privacy, I can understand why he thought he'd be safe. He looks like he's probably in his 40s like I am, meaning he's old enough to not get this sort of thing because he didn't grow up with it.

Edit: Not defending what happened, I'm glad he was caught and I don't care that he didn't understand what Telegram was advertising.

[–] 555_1 6 points 5 months ago

Anyone in their 40s grew up with technology and should know that it can never be trusted.

And it wasn’t telegram that (probably) gave them away. They probably met someone online in a an insecure place, then suggested they move to telegram to trade files. Dumb dumb dumb.

Sending and receiving hundreds of videos, but only one count? Was it because the group sent hundreds and he only sent one?

Gdi, I hate when shitty people commit crimes that the right will use in their propaganda. Now they'll start calling all porn stars groomers and use him as justification for the label and for banning porn. They already used the word; he just gave them a ton of ammo. Too bad he wasn't an accountant or something.

Edit: also, fuck this piece of shit.

WTF?! That's completely out of left field, the last dude I'd expect to be tried in court for child pornography charges.

[–] Otakulad 48 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I would have expected a priest or a republican congressman.

Same, not a famous porn star, but then again I only saw him through the lens of other people. Austin is great at masking the reprehensible part of himself, which is quite a worrisome skill to possess; I'm glad they caught him because the harm CSAM causes is immense.

[–] Sanguine 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Curious why you you think this.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I didn't feel anything was off with this dude; nothing seemed amiss, which truly caught me off guard. I guess you could say that pedos and other predators have a 'something is amiss' vibe, as I've picked them out before knowing a person long. Like certain customers or fellow co-workers, politicians or other people that spend way too much time on camera. There's something that most people unconsciously project in actions, direction of gaze, and other non-verbal cues that often tells me a lot about them before knowing them. Most of the time it's not bad stuff, just things that people occasional do or feel.

I guess you could say that pedos and other predators have a ‘something is amiss’ vibe, as I’ve picked them out before knowing a person long.

You mean you've picked out the ones that you know got caught or exposed.

There is no such thing as a "vibe" for predators or pedophiles just like there's no such thing as a "vibe" for a murderer. Sorry, you don't have psychic powers.

"There’s something that most people unconsciously project in actions, direction of gaze, and other non-verbal cues that often tells me a lot about them before knowing them. Most of the time it’s not bad stuff, just things that people occasional do or feel." That really isn't a psychic power, it's more about observation and figuring out when social cues don't add up. I don't believe in psychic powers, as they haven't been proven yet! I do believe in observation, reading body language and interpreting that. You can get a lot of information from people from that alone. I just said 'vibe' because I don't know how to quantify the idea sometimes.

[–] FlyingSquid 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What I'm trying to suggest to you is that the "vibe" is from a minority of the people who are guilty of the crime.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 5 months ago

From the people I can observe more closely, it's easier to read body language in person and make guesses based on those results. Naturally, my observations of people who I don't really know are going to be off more often than not. As snapshots of human behavior aren't always going to yield anything useful, people can play up all the behavior most would consider 'proper'.
