Replacing moldy sealant (self.homeimprovement)

There are a few spots I've neglected to replace old brittle sealant (around the kitchen sink) or never sealed at all (new faucet I installed 8 months ago). Now there's black gunk accruing under and around the sealant.

When I go to replace the sealant, how do I kill the mold so it's safe to seal over again?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

A bleach solution or white vinegar solution will kill it. You could spot test for colorfastness on all surfaces first. And there are places online that give solution ratios.

Depends on the surface. If it's stone or something, no probs, bleach will do it

If it's wood, ha ha no luck, it's a bastard to get rid of. Damn near impossible

Ah shit. The faucet is stainless but the counter around the sink is some kind of wood composite. Guess I'll put a bandaid on it and plan to replace the counter.

Yeah unfortunately it'll get into the grain of the wood and just keep reappearing once you clean it :(
