First time I quit I’d get the occasional craving, the second time I have maybe had a craving once. I think what helped me the second time was a minor health scare, (why is my tongue sloughing?), first kid on the way, and I reallly got into cardio
Edit: I smoked from 2007 to 2014? And then 2017? To 2020 Amount varied widely, but I probably went through a pack in 3 days average. Only hit a pack a day during finals week heh.
How else do you do it?
The Allan Carr method. That is all
For me, it was incredibly easy to quit. I saw my doctor, and asked them to prescribe me a round of wellbutrin/bupropoin.
It is sometimes used as an anti depressant, and other times as a means of suppressing the cravings from nicotine withdrawal.
I wouldn't go as far as to recommend it, because I know some people will take antidepressants and become a danger to themselves, but it's worth knowing about.
My understanding is that antidepressants only cause people to become a danger to themselves because, in the beginning, it gives very depressed people just enough energy to follow through on their suicidal ideation. If they stay on the meds for several months, the depression dissipates, and they are far less likely to harm themselves.
I've been on wellbutrin for about 4 years now, and it not only helped my depression, it definitely helped curb some of my addictions. I honestly consider it to be one of the reasons I'm still alive. I would definitely recommend it for depression, and although using it for addictions like smoking feels a bit like hitting a thumbtack with a hammer, I can definitely confirm that it's effective.
It sounds like you were able to kick the habit while only being on the meds for a short time. I'm glad it worked for you!
Sometimes antidepressants give people enough motivation to follow through with plans they've had (including suicide).
Othertimes, it simply fucks with peoples heads and makes them feel like shit.
Wellbutrin was okay for me, but I took escitalopram and mirtazapine, and I felt so weird, like I didn't even exist. I hated it, they made me feel stupid. I can imagine if I had some underlying psychotic disorder, it could have been dangerous.
Ask your GP for Bupropion.
What I don't understand is how people get addicted to smoking in the first place. It hasn't been "cool" to smoke in my lifetime. Going near a cigarette as a non-smoker is gross as fuck. Who decides "I don't care about my health or the gross smell, imma do this thing with no upsides" before being addicted?
