Cocktails, the libationary art!

1772 readers
20 users here now

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.

I'm just having coffee (moka pot coffee with foamed milk!) and water today, can't relax yet. Considering what to make in the weekend.

This is the first time I've run across this community. I feel like I've found my people.

In about an hour and a half I'll be having a Maker's 46 Manhattan. Tonight I'll be drinking well garbage. Tomorrow, if all goes well, I'm headed to a whisky bar that keeps Old Rip Van Winkle in stock and I'll have a couple of glasses of that. Tomorrow night is more well garbage. Sunday morning will be brunch cocktails with either corpse revivers or cadaver revivers. Sunday afternoon will be more Maker's Manhattans, then in the evening I'll switch to water so that I don't die at work Monday.

No, you sound like your weekend is jam packed already.

[–] TexasDrunk 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Of course I do. I'm a drunk and there's alcohol out there that needs me!

I keep a fairly active social life and drink when I'm not responsible for anything. But I can squeeze you in for a date if you're interested though. We haven't really known each other long enough to get married yet.

Thanks, but I must decline, due to how I'm happily married lol. Have fun with the well selections.

Tell your lovely spouse that a drunk in Texas says they're lucky to have someone with a good sense of humor. I assume you're lucky too but I don't know your spouse well enough to say exactly how.

Bottom shelf tequila with clementine juice. EDIT: the juice will be fresh squeezed.

I’ve been drinking “The Saint” bourbon from St. Augustine Distillery, on the rocks.

Two drinks we have been making lately are the Paper Plane and Aviation. I’m enjoying them both quite a bit, but would probably choose the first more often. It’s delicious and I love that beautiful orange color!

Been in a highball mood lately, so probably a nice Scotch and Soda. I know a nicer spirit makes a better drink, but I find a highball is perfect for finishing off those mostly empty bottles of whatever.

I've also been playing around with a ginger tincture I made recently, so hoping to use that in something. Just been drinking it with soda water lately and it works great for that, but I want to try turning it into a syrup too. Maybe a dark and stormy or something like that.

I tried to make an infinity whiskey with the odds and ends, but my husband drank it, lol. Ginger tincture sounds interesting - I love home fermented ginger beer, that's my usual ginger project.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Haha! That's definitely the danger of the infinity bottles! I've been drinking mostly rum lately, and an infinity rum bottle sounds like something I need to try.

I'm loving the tincture. I used Darcy O'Neil's recipe and it is a banger. Super simple and really spicy. I only need like 1.5ml to 6oz of soda water to make a refreshing sipper. I would love to make a ginger beer, but I just don't have room right now.

Today I'm making a mint simple syrup for a pitcher of mojitos to enjoy tomorrow after setting up the grill and Sunday is gonna be strawberry daiquiris (tho virgin for me)

I'll be having a slightly modified Old Fashion:

  • Bourbon
  • Muddled Bourbon
  • A dash of bourbon
  • Garnished with bourbon

I'll make mine a double

I've been making some of hard cider for a few weeks now, this weekend I'm going to prime it for carbonation and then bottle it. I plan on doing a taste test also.

Very exciting!

Been babysitting my homebrew Grand Marnier knockoff. Buy a decent cognac, burn some orange peel strips on a gas stove. I added a couple organic vanilla beans and coconut sugar and omg.

[–] RBWells 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ok this I have to try. You just infuse it with the burnt orange?

[–] kikutwo 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

That's all, it's great I'm glad you reminded me to go take a belt off it right now lol. I think the vanilla beans add a great smoothing to it.

It's a perfect 72 degrees today so I'm having a kalimotxo while grilling.

tomorrow is Eurovision, so I'm making everyone Blue Lagoon's: 1pt Vodka, 1pt Blue Curacao, 4 Parts Lemonade. Garnish with Lemon/Lime/Orange Slice or Maricino Cherry. Typically served in a hurricane glass.

[–] RBWells 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Wow this sounds like something my penultimate (adult) child would love. Maybe sub tequila though. On the occasions she wants a drink, she always asks for "a blue" meaning margarita with blue Curacao but not too strong (my ideal margarita is 2 oz tequila, 1 oz orange liqueur, juice of one lime, shaken).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Ive never heard of mixing curacao w/ tequila, but that doesnt mean anything

[–] Everythingispenguins 3 points 7 months ago

Coffee. I am at work, but when I get home a nice smooth Guinness.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I have been hearing a lot about the mint julip. Now I have just tried it twice over a couple of weeks. It really is great! Might have one tonight!

[–] RBWells 2 points 7 months ago

A lengthened margarita to finally start the weekend. Made one, but the tequila was nearly gone so I made the husband a shot then put the rest into my drink but ick, I just was not ready to have such a tequila heavy drink. Re-shook it with some orange juice and pineapple juice, then topped with a little topo chico. Supper is ready so this is my aperitif

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

A straight glass of gin or 2/3 bourbon and the rest coke.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Fosters beer and Smirnoff. I’m what you might call “an advanced drinker.” (Alky)
