I've had my eye on Helldiver's 2, but I'm not creating a PSN account. (Serious)

I know my $40.00 is pretty important to them, so I thought I would mention it here. (Sarcasm)

[–] [email protected] 42 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Same. I was thinking about getting it, but the kernel level anti-cheat is a no go, but then I found out on Linux they don't have a kernel-level anti cheat, so then I was thinking about it again. No way they'll ever get me to make a PlayStation account, I left consoles for a reason.

GREAT TO HEAR!

I have a PSN account. I can't ethically support this move that locked so many players out 4 months after buying a game. So I won't be buying until at minimum a solution is in place for all those users, but probably not even then.

Was thinking I'd binge this game this winter. Definitely not now lol

[–] lepinkainen 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You can’t “binge” a live service game where the plot changes in real time.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The plot changes?

In any event, I can definitely binge something even if the plot changes. The core gameplay likely will remain the same.

[–] lepinkainen 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yes, you still shoot bugs and robots.

But the planets that are available- and by extension the missions - change all the time. You can’t just mainline the game for 150 hours in a week and experience all of it.

Most of the people complaining about the lack of variance in gameplay are the ones playing 12 hours a day constantly.

[–] slumberlust 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This is a hot take. Playing on a hot planet against bots and defending a cold planet against bugs isn't an engaging live story.

[–] lepinkainen 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Enabling TCS on planets and having to disable them on a destroyed version of the map a month later because the TCS was actually mutating the bugs to become more powerful?

[–] slumberlust 0 points 7 months ago

We must be playing two different games. I shoot some bugs, play some DDR, and hop on an airplane.

Not gonna lie chief, I don't think anyone from SIE is on Lemmy. Like, I agree, but also I think nobody who needs to hear you is listening, not because they're not listening, but because they aren't here to hear you.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 7 months ago

Lol. Yeah.

Sorry, I left off the /s there.

[–] The_Vampire 71 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Well, they said they would 'discuss' the crappy anticheat too, but so far nothing has been done about that either. I won't hold my breath.

[–] VerseAndVermin 2 points 7 months ago (4 children)

I know little about it. What makes this stand out? I am guessing kernal level, but is there anything else to it?

[–] The_Vampire 46 points 7 months ago

Helldivers 2 uses nProtect GameGuard, which is a notorious kernel level anticheat. It is notorious for being problematic to uninstall and causing issues on systems it is installed in (such as straight up preventing some programs from running or causing them to crash and other terrible nonsense that should never happen). Combine that with the fact it's ineffective and the game is PvE, and it's nonsensical why it's around.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Just search “Sony Rootkit” and it should be more clear why Sony issuing a new kernel level anticheat is not met with warm regards.

[–] 1371113 2 points 7 months ago

Those were the days. I never thought installing mp3 player software would give me a rootkit, but it did…..

[–] [email protected] 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

The short version is that the anticheat software is very invasive on the user's system, and it doesn't even work to prevent cheating in the game.

[–] barsquid 1 points 7 months ago

Do people have to explicitly install this or is it another thing they're blindsided by like the PSN requirement?

[–] warmaster 7 points 7 months ago

Kernel Level Sony Data Breach in 3,2,1...

[–] EncryptKeeper 1 points 7 months ago

Well they reversed the account linking. I don’t think the anti-cheat had the same backlash though.

[–] [email protected] 54 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They can "talk" all they like. The proof will be non-implementation.

[–] SpacetimeMachine 34 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'm guessing it's them talking with Sony. Sony is the one requiring this, I'm sure the devs hate being forced to destroy the good will of the community.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago

Some people are saying they were aware of the requirements before launch and didn't adequately inform customers.

I'm unsure how true that is, but it's huge news if it is true.

[–] CosmicCleric 43 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (4 children)

The last screenshot is the most important one to pay attention to.

(Apologizing in advance, a bit of a rant incoming...)

People can't just bitch about it on an online forum and then do nothing after that, that doesn't solve anything. You have to be proactive, you have to get off your ass, if you truly want change and to be treated respectfully as a customer. Otherwise, you get what you deserve.

They know the standard M.O. of a gamer, its to complain but then do nothing, and they take advantage of that.

Edit: And I'm talking especially to those who are downvoting my comment. Just bitching and downvoting does't change/fix anything.

Seriously, you're still on that hill?
They hurt no one with their comment licensing, why do you feel the need to bother them and add to the harassment while adding nothing to the original discussion ?

[–] AtariDump 2 points 7 months ago

Still on what hill? I just got here.

And how many people on this site add nothing to an original discussion (I’d say at least half).

Thanks though!

Thanks.

What is the Anti Commercial-Al license and why do people keep adding it to their comments?

You're welcome.

I saw this coming a mile away when I first learned it was a GAAS.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I was considering getting this game on playstation at one point but I cannot support this behavior from the publishers.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 7 months ago

You already have by buying a PlayStation

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

Since Sony is publishing this everything you buy for PS is supporting that behaviour.
