Valve-compatible HMD rec (self.virtualreality)

I'm planning on getting back into VR, and I definitely prefer having lighthouses (also linux). Is there any HMD that I should be looking at, or is the Index still a good all-rounder?

It’s the Index but don’t expect a seamless experience on Linux. SteamVR 2 is a hit or miss with Linux since it’s not a priority. Other devs have come up with solutions such as Envision which uses Monado but I haven’t had the time to set that up.

Yeah, the Index is still you're best bet unless you can afford the Bigscreen Beyond. Also, if you go with an Index, I strongly recommend you buy used or refurbished as new models are still $1000 which is not worth it anymore imo.

Good call on used, thanks. What would be a fair price range for one in perfect condition?

I think GameStop was selling them for around $600 a while back for a full kit. You could probably go cheaper on eBay or something, but there's always a higher risk factor there.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably go this way.

The Index is the best all-rounder imo.

Based on specs only the HTC Vive XR Elite looks sharp as well.
