How much of this precious resource will be wasted on party balloons I wonder.
Very little. The helium used in party balloons is a tiny fraction of helium usage.
I’m not saying it’s okay, think gold leaf in food.
I'm not looking this up to fact check myself but if I recall the helium used for party balloons is impure somehow, and is not the variety critical for other industrial uses.
I’ve heard that as well, but I couldn’t find a source either.
A drop in the ocean compared to how much has been wasted due to natural gas extraction.

The state should seize the reservoir and redirect its profits to a sovereign wealth fund. I'm sure what will actually happen is that one old guy will get even richer.
