A lot of Lemmy users are here because we left reddit. However, it's kind of an unspoken rule that we don't really talk about it. People would rather focus on making Lemmy good by talking about things other than Reddit. I am sorry you had a bad experience at Reddit. I did too. But say "Goosfraba" and move on with enjoying a Reddit-less life. Welcome to Lemmy!
Leftism
Our goal is to be the one stop shop for leftism here at lemmy.world! We welcome anyone with beliefs ranging from SocDemocracy to Anarchism to post, discuss, and interact with our community. We are a democratic community, and as such, welcome metaposts that seek to amend the rules through consensus. Post articles, videos, questions, analysis and more. As long as it's leftist, it's welcome here!
Rules:
- Absolutely no fascism, right wing extremism, genocide denial, etc.
- Unconditional support of authoritarians will not be tolerated
- Good faith discussion about ideologies is encouraged, but no sectarianism
- No brocialism/sexism
- No ableism
- No TERFs/ anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric
- No racism
- No trolling
- No insults, dunking, or personal attacks
- No posting of misinformation, disinformation, or fake news
- Mods have final say
Posting Expectations:
- Comics/memes/shitposts/propaganda are only allowed on weekends
- Try to avoid liberalism unless discussing electoral politics. Even then, try to focus on tactical agreement towards leftist goals
- Only one meta post seeking consensus per person per day
- Posts about a particular ideology are ok, but remember the rules above
- Remember that there is no “right way” to implement leftist theory. This rule does not prevent academic criticism.
- Try to avoid extremely sensitive topics unless approaching them with appropriate care for intersectionality. Use your best judgement, and be prepared to provide respectable sources when having these discussions. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source in these cases.
- Post titles must be meaningful and relevant, except on weekends

it’s kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t really talk about it.
Does that include celebrating r/Wallstreetbets shorting the fuck out of Reddit's IPO?
You may have found an exception. I watch RDDT's stock ticker with giddy glee.
Because or course they did.
If Reddit goes down by sabotage from the inside, I will laugh so hard.
Did they? That's awesome.
That and spez selling off a ridiculous number of shares is tanking it.
So even he doesn't believe. Fucking capitalists.
It's not really a surprise. He's always been a piece of shit.
I really don't give a fuck about what reddit did or didn't do. Keep the reddit shit on reddit.
That’s an interesting reaction. Are we to keep harmful things that conservatives are doing on conservative forums?
Kind of, yeah. If the forum in question is toxic (Twitter, Truth Social), then it's best to simply tell people to stay away from it.
The problem isn't with interacting with conservatives - that's actually very much encouraged. The issue is the silencing and pruning they will do to anyone who opposes their opinions.
It's just not worth the effort... The people who create echo chambers aren't going to listen to the few that get through the gate. Reddit is 100% an echo chamber at this point. It's not even just left or right... It's just kind of a place people like to echo and yell now.
The people of substance are largely gone. They are here now.
That particular community exists to promote a product, and the moderators apparently are interested in silencing dissent. The platform is bought & paid for, and you broke the rules. The reaction you experienced is not limited to a single website or political group, if that makes you feel any better.
Why are you still on Reddit?
Didn’t know about Lemmy until a couple days ago and there are some communities that are a lot more active on Reddit than here.
Welcome to Lemmy! Don't let our frustrations with Reddit give you the wrong impression.
The main surge that makes up most of Lemmy vahemetly hates what Reddit did a few months back. It wasn't just that they killed the third party apps, it was the fact the CEO and company gaslit and lied about the entire ordeal. They then completely shit all over the moderators and active folks that dared to call them out.
Reddit and it's little piggie CEO are dead to us now. This is why people are reacting the way they are to your post. You're very welcome here, we're just going to shit on Reddit if it's mentioned, that's all. It's a completely compromised platform that has started to openly rot from the head down. Most of us simply see no solution other than "get off of there, it's bad for you and everyone else."
I can understand that. People just wanna move on and let it die. Still new here and early in the moving in part haha.
Stop using Reddit - You're here on Lemmy now, and it's emphatically better! Problem solved.
