It's not perfect.

But poaching deer skulking about with a bow in the woods is pretty fun.

Well deserved, I loved playing through this game when it came out and am eagerly awaiting their next project.

When sequel?

I really like the game but it's too difficult for me. I just don't have the time to get used to the controls before I have to stop playing and the next time I start it up again I have to start from scratch.

It seems like a lot of developers confuse making a "difficult game" with making a "difficult control scheme"

The combat went for realism, that makes it difficult + difficult to learn

You’re a regular guy with no training at the start so it’s hard. Once you’ve had training then it is easier but as a human you are still fragile

Definitely the best real-time 3d RPG there is even if it’s not my cup of tea

It wasn't bad but for me it felt really clunky

I spent the better part of 5 hours doing nothing but training sword combat to the point I could pull off multiple combos in a row and still got my dick kicked in by the first bandit I fought.

I really fuckin tried to play that game cause that's exactly the genre I love but I just couldn't get the combat down

In the end I got the furthest as a backstabbing coward

Same. But even then I only cracked the surface of the full story and only ever made it as far as the drunken priest.

I got to the part where you escape the castle and gave up cause I kept getting caught, knocked down, and killed. The controls are absolutely shitty.

I suspect you may have been running the wrong way. It's an easy mistake to make. But that entire sequence can be challenging even after you get on a horse.

I've started a new playthrough a few weeks ago, almost got a bout of PTSD at the memory of that escape sequence. Originally once you got on your horse you would be peppered with arrows and often bleed out before you got even half-way to Talmberg, or you just got killed the moment your horse ran out of stamina. Which happened multiple times as you couldn't let stamina regenerate fully before you had to start a new gallop and while trotting along you just had to hope those Cuman archers would miss their shots or you'd be screwed.

It's definitely a lot more doable these days, didn't had any problems this time. Just as long as you remember to gallop and keep it up as long as possible. But the lack of obvious directions underway can be confusing, make sure to listen carefully to Henry's comments. >!And of course don't bother to engage the Cumans once you leave the castle, if you want to help Theresa just whistle to get the attention of her attackers while keeping on running to the horse conveniently parked a little bit further up ahead.!<

Yeah, I definitely died a few times when I first started playing the game on release. And then tons of times after that too because the game is very unforgiving at the start (But gets better as you improve your skills).

Just an FYI though, those types of spoilers don't work on Lemmy clients other than Sync. So your spoiler is just visible to anyone that is not using Sync. Sadly, Lemmy's spoiler format isn't supported by sync, so you're screwed either way.

Thanks, didn't know that about the spoilers. I'll keep it in mind!

Pretty sure I was going the right way. I just never made it to the horse. Always hit by some psycho guard guy and beaten. I tried cheating with immortality and literally could not land a hit.

Yeah, at the beginning of the game you're complete ass at swordplay. You get better as you improve your skills and learn how to parry, but those are gated behind experience and training in the game.
