Postie has the hump now the ombudsman and auspost are making him do his job and keeps repeatly ringing the doorbell until we answer and snidely handing us every single package regardless of whether or not it needs a signature. For some reason he seems to think this is vengance.

Bless the little idiot.

Woo, got a call back for the job I applied for. Interview week after next. Still feel numb about it but it's something! Not getting my hopes up but it'll be good practice and a relief to shut up my brain that thinks I'm unemployable after 7 weeks of bumming around

The last earthquake I felt actually fixed the shower screen door that used to stick. Nature's own handy man.

I’ve been slowly befriending a lil black bird in my yard and today he felt comfortable enough to hop up towards, flick some leaves in my direction, and hop on 20cm right past me instead of flying a further distance to get around me.

Pretty chuffed.

I've fed the dog and he still tries to hustle a meal from other family members. Fucking scammer.

I can't get Vegas to eat his food today. He just keeps whinging for a treat (he has these chicken milk stick things he loves) but I said this afternoon no more sticks until he eats his food and I meant it.

I did treat him with a little bit of roast chicken at lunch time though..

My good next door neighbour is having work done on his house today. Asked me if the tradies can use my driveway to park and set up. I agreed. He just dropped a case of Coronas at my house as a thank you.

At least I'll have something to give to guests now :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Or you could ask a favour from someone and thank them with a slab of Coronas.

🤜ARISE. G O FORTH AND FULFILL THINE DeSTINY🤛

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

I arose, went forth and put my recycling bin out. Was that my destiny?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Um, ultra nit-picky grammar correction here. THINE refers to a proper noun. If you want to attribute ownership to the destiny you have to use THY.

So either - "ARISE. G O FORTH AND FULFILL THY DeSTINY" or "ARISE. G O FORTH AND DeSTINY wILL BE THInE".

Either one works. Not both.

Also, the whole THEE/THY/THINE thing is the intimate mode - for use between close friends, lovers and family members only. Think "tu" in French. The YOU/YOURS is more formal - suitable for strangers, grown ups and the government. Think 'vous' in French. Though calling a government (any) grown up is a bit of a stretch.

Last remnant (or nearly) of this sort of distinction in English.

I'm surprised. Was looking to spend quite a bit of dollarydoos on a new trench coat. I had specific design details that I wanted (not all trench coats are the same) and I saw one (online) that I'm assuming was last season's stock (all sold out). By chance I went into the store and asked. They had one left and it was 4 sizes bigger (I was looking for oversized) and I wasn't sure it would work, but the lovely store person made it work! I'm so chuffed. (It was also missing a small bit, but not bothered.) From looking at spending 4-something (it was also originally priced in that range) to less than 70.

In fact, I love it so much I'm sitting in it typing. Haha.

I've bought bigger sizes before thinking I could get the oversized thing to work, but I don't think it works with all pieces of clothing.

My daughter has been invited to study (online) some sort of science subject at Southern Cross University in Queensland in which she maybe offered a scholarship later on. She will do the subject but will not take the offer for said scholarship.

This is for @melbaboutown. I was reading about how you're worried you can't focus because you keep looking at new things.

Looking at new techniques and materials is awesome, not a fault. NOT A FAULT.

What I was taught at art school is to do projects. Every new student is encouraged to choose a project, every week they are guided in learning and practicing technique and materials for the project. More than one project is encouraged.

So focus on the project but at the same time your interest can drift in all kinds of directions, and the drifting can all go towards achieving the project.

A project is typically something than can take a lot of hours of research, reading, testing, thinking, learning, practice, actually doing. A project is a work of art.

The delivery driver is a gosh darn legend. He rang me to ask if he could leave the bike instead of taking it back to the depot.

Tassie truly is a different world. Took me a week after getting back to stop saying G'day to everyone, cause they all looked at me like I was crazy.

I was up. Then I fell up the stairs and bashed my shin against the sharp hard concrete and now I am regretting my life choices (i.e. getting up). :-(

Not even remotely embarrassed to say I bought an ungodly amount of soap because it was on sale and the scent is a limited run. It just smells so fkn good, and the little bits in it that make it abrasive are doing wonders for my chest eczema.

I'm sorry but a maximum of only four years for this crime? Honestly I just think some folks are so fucked you really do have to lock them up and throw away the key, if nothing else but for the safety of society.

I'm a bleeding heart leftie for the most part, but shit like this makes my blood boil.

Age should play no part when sentencing in such an obvious case.

Cannot imagine what the victim's parents are going through

[–] [email protected] 8 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

someone's gonna reply saying stricter sentences don't work for youth crime. That investment in public health services and early prevention are far more effective.

I'm going to be downvoted for what I'm about to say here but I don't give a fuck: Rehabilitation is a joke we tell ourselves to sleep at night whilst more people get killed.

I knew someone who was killed by an asshole who had previously been charged with violent sexual crimes who had no business being released and yet somehow made parole. He shouldn't have made parole, we should have killed him (or at the very least locked him in the deepest darkest hole ever).

How can I say such a horrible thing? Because that's exactly what happened. The fucker attacked a police office after the murder and was shot and killed. He committed a violent sexual crime, we let him out he did the same again before someone finally did what we should have done in the first place. As a society we failed the victims. Both the first, the second and the police officer that was attacked.

Judges make calls as if we can rehabilitate people. But we lack the infrastructure or investment to actually do that. Someone's gonna tell me "But TinyBreak, that's callous! Think of the human life". To that I say: I am. I'm thinking of the victims. You attack someone your no longer human.

Either we get serious about rehabilitation (never gonna happen) or we get serious about punishment. You want it both ways? get comfortable with stories like this.

Sorry, rant over. I just... have a lot of feelings about this. The world was a better place with the victim I knew in it.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Serious personality disorders like psychopathy can't be rehabilitated. Ever.

I would not be against evaluations before sentencing.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 9 months ago

You dont accidentally violently rape someone either.

My cat has engaged Velcro Kitty mode. He's been a bit standoffish this week, so I guess we're overcorrecting by demanding affection. Its a tad annoying when your trying to work, but I'll take Velcro over Speed Kitty any day of the week.

My dog is sunbaking outside. It's embarrassing that the birds drink from his dish while he snoozes.

Moobeans was super reluctant to eat her medicated wet food tonight... she jumped up and banged on the wardrobe door which is the 'feed me wet food' signal while the bowl was right next to her. She relented and ate some after I put a blob of plain cat food on the edge but she's hiding in a cardboard box cubby, obviously not feeling well. It's possibly from the antibiotics, not finishing her pain meds, or being constipated/being given stool softener I guess... It's jarring. She hasn't done this in quite a while. I'll let her sleep.

I found a Kmart $3 clearance acrylic paint set that seems close enough to what I need and includes a few brushes. 🤔 It sucks but I don't want to buy professional supplies.
