I feel like it was intentional.

Scott was the kid in class that reminded a teacher to assign homework.

He was undoubtedly a good guy, but he was the boyscout. So kids reading liked it when things went wrong for Scott. His whole purpose was to get fucked with for following all the rules.

I mean in universe Scott was the writer of the X-Men comics which is why he always appears as the leader and also why he deals with the most shit.

He was trying to make himself look cool by appearing as the leader who takes all the shit.
