That road goes to the old Orbital Sciences offices in Northern VA (they were bought but Northrop Grumman in the 2010s, though the offices are still there I believe). I’ve driven by that sign many many times and always enjoy it.

Others have said it's a company that does space-related stuff, so apparently it was intentional. I never heard of it before.

If the interior of the Discovery was built by Americans, it would probably have a 10 mile freeway to Engineering.
Thankfully, it was officially built by Starfleet, but technically built by Canadians.
..... so an extremely long lonely roadway into the wilderness with the chance of encountering wild animals to get to the next town.
