The missile was heading toward the Arleigh Burke class guided missile destroyer USS Laboon in the southern Red Sea,

They shot a missile at a US missile destroyer? Big brain move.

Just making sure you're aware that a Guided Missile Destroyer is a Destroyer class warship armed with guided missiles.

USS Laboon has shot down numerous Houthi missiles and drones in recent weeks.

Seems it's still capable

The leader said recently that he's not afraid of a confrontation with America. Their slogan is literally "God is great, death to the U.S., death to Israel, curse the Jews, and victory for Islam."

I think they got quite a bit of courage from taking over half the country and showing themselves genuinely capable in war, but they clearly have absolutely no idea what a confrontation with America actually looks like. It's like going from high school football to playing in the NFL.

Maybe their leader is going for a The Mouse That Roared gambit

I don’t think that analogy goes far enough…

The sheer level of hurt that the USDF could put on them is completely on a different universe to anything they would have come up against previously.

They 100% could obliterate everything in that theatre that even resembles a “target” with little warning and zero real strain, it would be significantly less effort than some of the training exercises that happen.

Someone is clearly being paid by someone else to provoke a response or provide a distraction (I wonder who)

Which I think is probably why nothing too crazy has happened in response yet because why give them what they seem to want.

Pull us into another endless war. Bin Laden laughing from his watery grave

It's more like middle school pickup versus an NFL starting lineup.

they must have known that wouldn't do anything right?

like the Navy didn't even respond to it, it was shot down by a non-naval US fighter, meaning they have a tight dome around Yemen.

It’ll be interesting to see how long the Houthis can hold out once the USN blockades all their ports.

Like are you trying to get the military industrial complex to activate?
