Kinda similarly, I pick up eggs out of the carton to not disturb the center of mass so much. If you only take eggs out of one side, when you go to pick up the carton, it could flop to one side. But if you take eggs from all sides equally, you won't have that problem!
Maximum efficiency: alternate rows to evenly distribute the weight

Or you could just rip the carton when it gets low. The rows are segmented so they tear easily along the line and will hold shape.
When I'm eating gummy bears with the kids I always make them beg for their life before I bite their head off.
