General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Just when you think the Tories couldn't run this country down any further......

It also claimed that factors such as Ukraine and debt relief could make it even more difficult to meet the target. This is because the government has cut international aid spending to 0.5% of gross national income since the announcement was made, squeezing budgets across the board, and because ministers did not spend most of the money allocated to the climate fund over the past few years, leaving the majority to be spent by 2026.

So we are ditching the targets because they cut the budget for 0.7% and used creative accounting to stick the help for Ukraine in there? Surely the actual solution is to not do any of that nonsense and fund the thing properly.

This is as well using the fund to maintain embassies and government infrastructure over seas.

It’s almost like Sunak and Starmer are in competition to see how many things they can pledge NOT to do. The age of inverted political campaigning!

Idiotic short term false economy.

It's very simple, spend now or spend a lot more later.

More moves to the political members being utterly pointless.

That's shocking. The guy, who uses helicopters and planes like mad, doesn't care about the environment. All these Tory PM are manipulated by think-tanks which are either funded by dodgy means, or have are promoting stupid policy, often both.
