Good now maybe they can get some of those backwards ass laws changed. The Mormon church ruined what Utah could be

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Also, at some point subdivide some of those ridiculously long blocks in SLC (which are their size for theological reasons)

Remember kids, Mormons aren't above a good massacre!

Thank Christ!

As an ex mo I hope it's true! I don't live in SLC and it still feels stifling down in orem.

[–] glitches_brew 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Have you tried not living in Orem? SLC is great!

[–] ericbomb 2 points 1 year ago

Haha well I moved here because of my job, and I got a steal on a house that I bought for 200k in 2020 that is now 400k.

But honestly I probably would like slc. Me and gf love going up there via train.

I'm in Salt Lake and I absolutely hate it, but the I've always despised Utah. I'm only still here because I caretake for an elderly parent who can't be moved. When she's gone I'll be so out of here it'll make everyone's head spin. All my friends who left Utah long ago say they are so happy to be living in other states. I know when I do get out, I'll never look back and actively will deny ever having lived here at all.

Given that it benefits churches to inflate their numbers, and it's sorely tempting to do so by including those inactive (ones who quit but didn't announce that they quit) we can estimate their numbers to be even lower, but we don't have a means to track undeclared ex-Mormons.

Is the Mormon church still insisting we avoid the term Morman (in favor of member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or member of the Latter Day Saint movement )?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

The data in article is trying to correct for that. The numbers out of the LDS do show a decline, but it's probably deeper than their numbers show.

The numbers still aren't perfect, mind you. It's not full survey data, but rather corrections based on nationwide data.

Good, fuck em. Bunch of cultists.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

A cult can always be determined by it's insistence that males have sex with underage girls. That's all mormonism is, besides being a big business that rakes in tons of money from the ignorant.

A friend of mine was in Salt Lake City on business recently and went to an artisanal cafe and a craft beer bar, which pretty much suggests that the LDS Church’s grip isn’t what it used to be.

I've lived In Utah most of my life, and never had neighbors who weren't staunch mormons. I mean, my family was descended from Mormon pioneer stock, from my great great grandfather Parley P. Pratt on down. But we aren't part of the religion anymore, most of us grew brains and realized it was bullshit a long time ago.

Yet still Mormonism rules every aspect of life in Utah. Conservative "values" continue to bring such joyous outcomes as forbidding LGBTQ to be discussed in schools and preventing trans people from using public bathrooms, and now making sure all kids have the ten commandments shoved down their dumb little fucking throats at school so they can see how bad they are as humans and strive to be more like the wonderful legislatures who show us the way to good Christian enlightment with every bill they pass against gay, black or non-christian folks.

Not that I'm bitter about it or anything. At least it gives me a sense of purpose when I get to pee all over their nutjobbery on the editorial page of the Salt Lake tribune (which I do quite frequently).
