I’d love input from a native speaker, but unless my dictionary is misleading me “la vida de la gestante, de 28 semanas, y de su madre” does translate as “the life of the 28-week pregnant woman and her mother”. Which doesn’t make sense obviously, so is likely just an error in the original article.

I am a native speaker and can confirm, both of those words refer to a woman. The rest of the article correctly refers to the baby as la bebe.

Even the translated version mentions that it's 5.5 months.
