In today's instance of messed up dreams, I had a very vivid and lengthy one about an insane weather event where BOM predicted it would go down to -26 and -28 in Melbourne over the weekend (just the weekend!) and the forecast recommended in the strongest terms that everybody stay indoors as much as possible. Then in the dream I went to the DT and everyone was losing their shit and people were sharing info of which supermarkets still had stock of anything and locations of official "cold shelters" operated by councils for people to take refuge in if needed. The Alps were being evacuated and there was talk of crop failures and potential deaths in the thousands. It was very real in my head.

It wasn't even that cold this morning!

Would that be survivable in a Melbourne apartment with no heating? Just clothes and bedding etc?

I doubt it.

Environments that cold need really well insulated spaces, and a lot of Melbourne homes are really poorly insulated. The apartment has one advantage, in that it would be small and therefore relatively easy to heat through even improvised means, but holding on to that heat for any length of time would be difficult

Maybe with a group of people huddled together in a blanket fort? I've never experienced temperatures like that myself but I remember a whole lot of advice going around during last year (?) power blackouts over winter in the US. People camping in their living room and staying in the one room to concentrate heat sources. That said, I don't think it went down to -20 C though. Wouldn't water pipes freeze and stuff as well? I suspect maybe it won't be survivable. 🤔

Sounds like a story or movie idea to me!

Thats weird, I had a dream it was snowing in Melbourne. Lots of snow. That's all I can remember though.

No but it was humid as fuck at 100% humidity. Gross.
