why are americans completely obsessed with therapy, and why are either of these two fuckheads using it to boast on twitter about how manly they are
Because our society is so deeply flawed that it literally causes mental illness. And when someone is able to actually get mental health treatment, it's a big fucking deal. Also our parents have spent our whole lives telling us therapy is for the weak as we watched them destroy the world and our economy.
Also, therapy is inadequately covered by most health insurance plans, along with dental and vision. I wonder why people think that you can have "comprehensive" health insurance that neglects your teeth, eyes, or brain.
And while I can get separate health insurance for vision or dental, I've never seen any employer offer a separate mental health insurance program.
It's just so insanely expensive there's no way for an insurer to offer it without exorbitant premiums. My brother makes $160K and spends one-fourth of that (before taxes) on therapy for himself, his wife and their two kids. $200/hour sessions once a week add up pretty damn fast. I'm a school bus driver and if I went to a therapist it would cost me literally half of my income just for myself. My employer-provided health insurance covers something like two sessions a year.
This makes me really glad there is a nonprofit in this town that offers therapy for kids at a low price because it has been so helpful for my daughter and she really loves her therapist.
It's awesome that therapy has been accepted as a means to cope with problems that hinder you in your daily life in recent years. Going to therapy is important if you have inner struggles that need resolving. It's important to encourage people to go to therapy if they have problems that need discussing.
Elon Musk is an idiot and the other person was trying to help people that would potentially not go to therapy because they're Musk fans and think highly of his opinions. That's it. Spoken as a European

We’re obsessed with therapy because we are breaking our brains with loneliness and it’s crashing our brain’s ability to cope with life.
You know something odd? My daughter was in public school and practically never left her room. She was seriously bullied, which didn't help, to the point that we had to take her out of school and put her in online school. Now she wants to go out and do things constantly and has an actual friend group.
She still spends half her time on TikTok or whatever, but she's actually got a social life now and it required us taking her out of the environment where you would think it would be best for her socially.
You might need therapy if you let her spend that much time on TikTok...
You clearly don't have a teenager.

you would need therapy if you lived here, trust me
Society is attempting to commodify every aspect of life, including the social aspects which people actually need to maintain a healthy mind.
