Which means we must reach for unrealistic results; we must change the system by means other than election. A new constitutional convention must be called.
Agreed, America has one of the oldest (and therefore most outdated) democracies in the world. Unfortunately we also have a lot of nationalism that reverses our founders as gods not to be questioned, and that thinks the constitution was meant to be largely immutable. If you have a way to overhaul our constitution that doesn't require massive civil unrest, I'll be there to support it
