The opossum being "taken out from the open coat" is a wild animal common in North America (maybe elsewhere?) It'd be like coming home from the park with a squirrel or a racoon. "Adopting" feral animals who were living in nature is considered strange behavior by most people.

This is the Opossum community, so people post memes and images of opossums, which many (myself included) find to be very cute in spite of their wild nature. I hope this has answered your Opossum questions, please call again!
