Original Post:
Today, we want to inform everyone that we have decided to defederate from https://exploding-heads.com/. We understand that defederating should always be a last resort, and individuals can certainly block communities. However, blocking alone does not prevent potential harm to vulnerable communities.
After carefully reviewing the instance, reported posts, and multiple comments from the community, we have concluded that exploding-heads is not adhering to the Lemmy or Citizen Code of Conduct. Therefore, we cannot, in good faith, continue to federate with an instance that consistently promotes hate, racism, and bullying.
Examples:
https://lemmy.world/post/577526 - Community Moderator Harassment
https://exploding-heads.com/post/92194 - Systemadmin Post
https://exploding-heads.com/post/90780 - Systemadmin Post
https://exploding-heads.com/post/91488 - Systemadmin Post
https://exploding-heads.com/post/93725 - Community Moderator Post
Again, deciding to defederate from an instance is not taken lightly. In the future, we will continue to review instances on a case-by-case bases.
As for our community, please refrain from posting or commenting with hateful words as well. Arguing back and calling people names is not the solution. The best course of action is to report the posts or comments violating our server rules.

Your second account (created over there) would have no effect on this account.
I went over there to see what the controversy was about and saw that you can use your (for example) lemmy.world account to sign up over there... are both the accounts linked then in some way or are they still completely separate?
If you sign up as @chanunnaki at eh.com then that account would be @[email protected] while this account is @[email protected]. Completely separate account on a completely separate instance, no relation to each other whatsoever.
I wouldn't though, the parts that aren't nazi are just edgelord humor and that's at best tedious and exhausting and at worst bigotry with an intentional half inch of wiggle room so it still falls under "edgy" and not "hateful." Most of the discussion about being defederated is basically "Fuck everyone who won't let me call everyone a retard and a n*****"
So this means that I can technically join @eh.com, make racist comment/harrassment/death threats over there, get banned and my account @lemmy.world would still be fine?
Oh no, I am soing just fine and have no interest about that.
It is just it is a potential loophole many would use to troll.
Yeah, but you probably wouldn't get banned for that there.
That's correct. Likewise, nobody can create an account with your username on another instance to get this account banned.
It's not dissimilar to making a throwaway to be racist. But if someone wants to be racist, they should at least have the balls to do it on their main account. Of course they'll get banned, but all would be in order.
Well if they make their racist comments on the throwaway on a defederated instance and stay civil and nice on their main account, that's working well too.
Somewhat relevant xkcd
So you can't make an account with the same user name on multiple instances?
You can. They can all have the same username, but they won't impact any account on another instance, despite having the same name.
Yeah, okay that makes more sense.
I guess this also means that there's an opportunity for 'spoofing' known accounts as the platform grows.
Nothing stops me from making a Bazoogle account on any number of instances. Or even doing the same and creating an instance mixing letters like capital i and lower case L (I/l)
Seems like a weakness
You can
