Define worse? I generally find most interactions to be mostly pleasant.
People here will attack you for having a slightly different viewpoint than the status quo, which I can't really even figure out. It feels like a tight knit clique, and I'm not a part of it. Often times I just don't comment on things, because I expect to get downvotes and made fun of.
That’s been the opposite of my experience here on Lemmy and the exact thing I’m experiencing more and more on Reddit.
Likewise. I guess when you hang out on the equivalent of c/denofvipers you shouldn't expect a terribly friendly community. Don't like the community? Find a different one! Found your own if you have to!
From what I have seen if you explain your viewpoint people usually tell you why they disagree and you can argue with them as long as you stay respectful.
Without knowing specifics of the topics you’re engaging in have you considered maybe, just maybe, you’re not correct about these topics?
Are you really being yelled down or challenged on how you think?
I'm open to discussion, it's why I'm here. The problem is generally how it's done. If I'm wrong about something, I'm more than willing to change my mind when presented with new information, as long as I'm not being called stupid or other names along the way. Most of the time that isn't the case.
This thread has so far been pretty good, everyone is being polite, and simply presenting alternative opinions. I'm still not convinced that will be the norm if I start regularly commenting though.
Hmmmm I guess it’s hard to say without a specific topic.
I’d say for me though, when I get downvoted a bunch sometimes I was just being an asshole, other times I have a controversial opinions and a lot of times it’s just that text is not a great medium to convey sarcasm or intonation which affects how things get interpreted.
When I reread the stuff a couple of days later usually I’m like ‘oh yeah I guess it was taken the wrong way because they probably thought XYZ’
Oh there's definitely times where it's been me, but I didn't start that way. Lemmy has turned me into that. Since I don't expect a good interaction, I often just start out shitty, and keep going.
Just don't mention any software that isn't FOSS. Ever.
Agreed.

Same here. The communities I’ve interacted with here, if I was on the equivalent subreddit, I’d have be downvoted to hell for not knowing enough. I find I’m able to have proper discussions here
They mean the community here is socialist and offends their capitalist sensibilities.
