Today I had a talk with my boss. Apparently I'm not a good enough programmer to handle tasks alone and they don't want to keep me around to learn the languages they want.
He said, maybe if we find a project for you that you could handle. Then we won't fire you.
I'm just so done .. I knew that i just started and it's my first job and I don't have much experience but I was hopeful that they wanted to teach me stuff. Now it doesn't look like it anymore. I don't know what to do. Who would take someone who got fired after not even a year?
Ouch. It can be tough as a junior developer.
My advice is to keep asking questions when you get stuck.
As a senior dev, I don’t go out of my way to teach people, but it’s extremely gratifying when people come to me for advice or mentoring.
How the fuck are you supposed to start a new job when you have little experience? Just do a YouTube tutorial? I really thought that I would get thaught in this company but apparently not...
A lot of companies aren't prepared for junior or even mid level devs. I'm job hunting and the amount of senior and staff level positions out there compared to jr/mid is sobering. If you think it's salvageable, make a learning plan and share it with your boss. But it might be best to start leetcoding now. Best of luck, friend.
I never got that bit tbh. Where do they think the seniors come from?
Wish I knew so I could find a job there.
Real answer: it's cheaper to wait and hire senior levels (or outsource because you can't find qualified candidates) than to hire someone who needs training then may leave after you've trained them.
