For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

I don't necessarily want to say without evidence that this is what happens when people sell their souls to the devil, because I can neither prove that human beings have a soul to begin with nor as to whether or not there actually exists a "devil" in any sort of tangible cosmogenic sense, but one of three things has to be going on at this point.

One, Elon has always been crazy to some extent and in this instance that craziness was enough to net him an enormous amount of success and followers, but now the world is getting to see what happens when a crazy person is given a huge amount of success.

Two, there is some shady stuff going on in the background between Elon and his private funders, and this craziness is happening because it has to happen in order to satisfy the people who hold the purse strings.

Three, Elon has sold his soul to the devil and this is what happens when the devil collects his due.

Of course it could be some combination of these three things but most likely it's a combination of one and two.

This is what happens when you surround yourself with Yes people and get rid of or filter out anyone who says no.

Endless confirmation bias drives people crazy, and is the root of the "absolute power circuits corrupts absolutely."

He has metaphorically done this already. He clearly has abandoned any sense of morality or ethics for personal gain. This is true regardless of how he got here. He is just evil now.

I don't think people are giving enough credit to the timing of all this, which while I'm not obsessed enough about Musk to nail down accurately, seems to have started with his divorce.

It's like his whole personality just fractured.

In that case, then Grimes must have been like a psychological sponge soaking up enough of the crud that Elon could keep it together in public, and now that he doesn't have that we're getting 100% pure unadulterated Elon.

I think that there's a lot of successful people like that, who use their family as dumping grounds for their toxic emotional baggage. After all, everyone has emotional baggage. No one is pure and perfect. We all deserve some criticism.

Some of us will grow from it the way the wind strengthens the trees, especially when we are well watered and cared for.
