Had to make a decision to fire someone today. Haven't actioned it yet, but got approved by one of the big dogs.

Tried so hard to give them a chance with written warning and performance improvement plan, but they think everyone else is the problem, they're carrying their department, and that everyone around them is too sensitive.

Hard decision to make in this climate but I've got a whole team to look after that don't deserve being bullied.

Feel more confident than ever in this job when my tough calls are backed like this.

You can make it fun by singing

If you work here and you know it, clap your hands

And when everyone is about to clap, turn to the person who's getting sacked and just say Not you, though

That's amazingly brutal and I love it

I just laughed at what you wrote. Oh noes, guess I’m going straight to hell

Before the song commences, ask them to wear oven mitts.

Hey, you've got to act in the interests of your whole team, and it sounds like they'll be a better team for it. You never know, that person's next job might end up being a better fit for them.

I think their department will be so much happier with them gone. They deserve better.

everyone around them is too sensitive

textbook bad news colleague. hopefully they aren't a terminal knob and can find somewhere they work better

They'd maybe work well with other headstrong people that are equally blunt but I'm not so sure.

People who love to ‘say it like it is’ and being ‘brutally honest’ are usually abso-fucking-lutely dreadful at having the same treatment applied to them.
