What would happen if I tossed it in the washer (on a cold programme)? Is there another way to get old deep mud (I hope! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ) stains out of this unknown synthetic fabric?
Where else should I ask?

Assuming that this is a similar rug to the one you have, the website only says it can be "spot cleaned with water". Seems like it's designed in such a way that it has to be replaced eventually. I'd say if she absolutely has to keep this one just soak it in warm water with a very small amount of gentle detergent? Then just hang it up to dry for a day or two
