If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Brah. That's harsh. Someone invite Grayson over for pizza and video games.
It made me so sympathetic when Flaco was doing the same thing. For Grayson, there's just not another lady screech nearby. For Flaco, there was no other Eagle Owl in the wild on the whole continent!
In a similar vein, I was looking for owl news articles today and almost all I came across was more of Canada's failure to protect the Spotted Owls. The 6 captive bred ones all died and the lonely lady Spotted is still there by herself in the whole province. Now they're trying to build a ski resort right on top of it. I want to share the story because it's important, but I don't want a real downer right before Valentines.
I did find an article about Mexico seemingly doing a better job with the Mexican Spotted Owl that I think I'm going to use to do a side-by-side look with how Canada is failing. Maybe I'll do it next week.
I hate putting up ad news, but there is public comments being taken until the end of the month against the proposed resort, so it seems like news that should be shared. I'd post all happy stories if I could, but I feel we are in for a bumpy ride for anything environmental.
I understand, it's a fine needle to thread but I appreciate those kinds of stories too. If anyone can lend a voice it's worth it.
