These other pictures make it seem really charming. But I don't get why in one picture it's on a wooden platform, but not the other.

It is 100% a better use of that space than a dead tree and rocks/mulch like most of the other ones.

I grew up in a house with an atrium but unfortunately my parents trimmed down and ultimately killed the trees that used to grow in there. I think their concerns were the roots and the foundation.

This would be the perfect home for my wife's birds. Plop down some trees; install a small pond. Definitely better than a cage.
