They voted to acquit because his term was expiring and they argued that he would need to be prosecuted in criminal court. He can still be impeached, as double jeopardy does not apply.
They didn't vote to acquit because his term was expiring. They voted to acquit because he was Republican so they used the excuse it was for the courts. As soon as they acquitted, they began backtracking on their claims that Jan 6th was a problem.
The Republican Congress will not impeach Trump for any reason.
