my problem goes deeper than you might initially expect. i have made many many characters for this game. however, none of them have finished it

Have you ever thought about finishing them off at the same time?

I've seen some documentaries about this.

I sympathise with you here, and I won't urge you to finish it (because I know it's not that simple), but I do hope that you are able to some day, because the ending of the game is one of the things that is dear to my heart in the game (I am curious at what the furthest you've gotten in it is). It's not even that the ending is good — the reason I love it is because of how it hurts: it hurts because it means the game is finally over, and it also hurts because the characters in the game don't get the closure of an ending. Disco Elysium actually feels tremendously hopeful to me, but it's a weary, desperate kind of hope, because Revachol is sick and struggling; Martinaise, depressing shit hole that it is, reminds me of home — I say this with equal parts bitterness and affection. You would probably take away something different from the ending than I did, which is why I hope that you are able to experience it some day.

Hearing the first three notes of Instrument Of Surrender is still enough to send me into a melancholic episode.
