Serious question, is it normal to get a Christmas bonus? I work in tech and none of the last 4 companies I've worked for offers a bonus
In mexico it's by law that you get at least 15 days salary as a christmas bonus
I get a gift card for 30 dollars to whatever retailer bought the most product from us this year.
When we asked at a town hall that they stop spending money in our name, they said talk to your union rep.
When we brought it up at the hall, they said if they bring it up the response will be to simply take the bonus away.
It hasn't been a regular thing for decades. Boomers were probably the last generation to regularly get these. And even then it was industry and position dependent. I had a job that gave Christmas bonuses but that was an anomaly in my career where a large portion of my total compensation was performance based bonuses in that job.
I received a Christmas bonus a single time at my last company after I was promoted to a higher salaried position. The next year they changed it so that only senior directors and above were getting bonuses.
Very common in germany, at least when you have a union contract
