Why do we have to go through this exercise of fighting far right extremism every few decades? Is the motto leave other people the fuck alone really that difficult to understand?

Because "blame immigrants," and the like, are highly profitable distractions for the oligarchs, and the politicians and mainstream news they control, to run on everyday people while wealth keeps getting transferred from public to private hands and debt from private to public hands

I always found the immigration thing exceedingly ironic in the U.S. and Canada, both countries that were founded on immigration.

A lot of people are hurting economically. A handful of the population came out of the pandemic better than they went in, but most have been nailed hard by inflation. People expect to be worse off than their parents.

It's the result of decades of mismanagement (from Liberals and Conservatives), but for whatever reason, the right seems to be doing a much better job of capitalizing on it.

Freedom and democracy have to be defended constantly against those who forgot or can't imagine what it's like to not have them.
