No matter their intentions the outcome is always the same. Walled gardens that allow people to stay uninformed about the systems they are using and their consequences.

Chromium is open source, Android is open source, thats all very cool and yet Google is a cancer. Never put your trust in companies, no matter how cool they might be at the moment.

Yeah, I wish YouTube thumbnails would work on Lemmy for me. It would make the title seem less like a clickbait, AD video.

Never put your trust in companies, no matter how cool they might be at the moment.

I added that to my first comment. Imo it can be acceptable to use services provided by companies, but using any company for more than one service is just a bad idea. If your everyday life would be significantly impacted by the shutdown or going evil of any specific company, then you are putting too much trust in that company.

To answer your question i like a company that doesnt try to make people dependent on it.
