have decided to take tomorrow off and go somewhere for the weekend. excluding Daylesford (its lovely but I go there all the time), where's a nice regional town for me to visit this weekend?

edit: someone mentioned wandi in a different thread, strong contender

Go to Forrest. While you are there make sure to stop by Dar Tèta cafe for the best baklava ever.

Also, lake Elizabeth is nearby. They have canoe tour if you want to check out the platypus community there.

Also there is a e-bike tour run out of Gellibrand a short lovely drive to the west.

Forrest us a good shout - I should have noted in my post that we have a place in Lorne, so we are often in that part of the state. I absolutely love Lake Elizabeth - its such a nice walk in, and so pretty! I dont often see platypus, though (I know they're there, I just never see them!)

Oh cool. I’m sure you have been but if not, I can highly recommend CODA at the Lorne Hotel. They do a fantastic steak. Probably in top three favourite steak meal in my lifetime.

Uh let’s see, you know Echuca always has something going on and the river has the paddle boat. Shamrock does a nice pint.

we are headed to Beechworth next week for a couple days to poke around and do the asylum ghost tour. Maybe I’ll write a mini review here.

oh!!! an asylum ghost tour sounds right up my alley! please do share your review. You prompted me to google ghost tours in regional vic. There's one in walhalla, so maybe that's where we go this weekend

Not Ararat

Hall's Gap maybe?

Nice hikes in the area. Lovely views. Moderate chance of a white supremacist gathering.

It is a lovely part of Victoria. I did have the worst pizza ever in Hall's Gap, but that was like 20 years ago and I'm pretty sure the joint doesn't exist anymore.
