Thank fuck, hopefully if they do try another tv series or even a movie, they make it in the canon timeline and you know, actually good

I feel like non-canon CAN work, but with the main character being the Chief and not acting very Chief-like, it was doomed to fail from the start. Other Spartans could work. I mean, they made a new one for Dead or Alive, FFS.

ODST and Reach are 2 of my favorites and they are basically removed from Chief almost entirely.

They also ruined Soren.

Soren is an established character in the Halo universe and he's a tragic hero. His fatal flaw is emotional immaturity. He can't handle his anger and he loses everyone he loves as a result, eventually being easily manipulated by an insurrectionist into going AWOL. Also, he can't wear MJOLNIR because of his deformities and this is a defining fact for him because it meant he could never be a Spartan. It's why he's so angry.

So naturally in the show they made him a suave and emotionally intelligent pirate captain who loves his wife and son and who wears MJOLNIR armour that he stole when he decided not to be a Spartan.

I wish there would be more Edgerunners type releases where it's a companion piece rather than a direct adaptation which allows for way more creative freedom and less burden of being compared.

Yeah. Master Chief isn't really meant to anchor a show anyway. The obvious move would have been to give us a separate batch of Spartans and have the chief and a few Nobles make cool cameo appearances.

Yeah I thought it would be like that awesome trailer back in the day.

That's kinda what Forward Unto Dawn was for Halo 4. It's been a while since I've seen the whole thing, but the MC intro scene is pretty fuckin badass.

Yeah.

I'm not usually a stickler for canon, but it hurt extra with Halo, because Halo just has so little (compared to much older franchises like Doctor Who, Star Trek or Star Wars) canon to begin with.

It's not like they needed to prune things or get a fresh start. There's so much un-told story in the Halo Universe. It felt so pointless to needlessly mess with ~~what little~~ established canon we have.

I said it on the old Halo subreddit and got disagreed with almost unanimously, but this is exactly how I feel. Except about how little lore, because there's actually a lot when you take into account the books, comics, and short stories.

But the whole "fractures" thing they introduced with Infinite and the alternate armors coming from alternate timelines was just unnecessary. We don't need different timelines or a "Halo multiverse."

Agreed. I think having alternate timelines or worse, dimension hopping, detracts from Halo's roots in real war, where actions have devastating consequences.

Yeah. I don't mean to belittle how much lore Halo does have! I've enjoyed a great deal of it.

I just mean to say that, as a younger franchise, Halo isn't at a Star Wars or Marvel Comics level of ludicrously weighed down by lore. So I feel like the first show could have done a lot more to navigate within established lore.
