The US agency is assisting in the case as two of the six guests found dead at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok hotel were US citizens.

Am I crazy for thinking this is odd? Lots of Americans die abroad without the FBI getting involved.

6 people poisoned in a hotel room and 2 are Americans. This is kinda different, right?

I’d say that you’re right - most Americans that die abroad are not members of groups poisoned in hotel rooms.

But it also doesn’t appear at first glance like these folks were targeted because they were US citizens.

More news came out, the murderer is one of the 6 and was also one of the 2 US citizens.

Would that qualify for FBI intervention/assistance?

Not sure. Last I saw was about the tea party and it being over an investment in Japan gone awry but the details beyond that were fuzzy.

To clarify, my point was not that the FBI shouldn’t be involved; but the fact that they were involved made it seem like there was more to the story.

They were probably rich (as stayed in a 5 star hotel) and might have some family connections to pull some strings

Of course it’s odd. Several rich people don’t get poisoned on the regular. The facts of the case probably point to organized crime or a nation-state assassination.

If you want a conspiracy theory, it’s that the FBI is involved because the U.S. is who did the operation. A more likely theory is that this is bigger than one country and no one is sure what’s going on.
