Why does Foto's have an apostrophe?

[–] [email protected] 108 points 4 months ago

I'm not an expert but probably because it's Dutch

[–] [email protected] 37 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Plural of words ending with a vowel (except "e") uses the apostrophe.

[–] SanderTuit 8 points 4 months ago

Only if it's a short 'e', if the pronunciation is long, you do use an apostrophe.

Gotcha, makes sense

100 hours learning Dutch in duolingo and I still had to go look this up. /smh

Don't let it go, but let it go

Is that about right?

[–] Cabslock 20 points 4 months ago (2 children)

No, it roughly translates to

Not because i have to, but because I can

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

And the intonation matches: doing stuff for the fun of it.

Fuck duolingo, if I ever see that bird again I am going to jail for animal abuse

They don’t give you the fun local saying we have here.

I think my favorite one my Dutch buddy told me about was "Helaas pindakaas." If not that, I also love the insult "droplul."
