I think the laws are different now, because I see it at the Whole Foods, but years ago (in California) you had to go through this weird "I'm not buying raw milk" theater where you "buy" a fraction of a dairy animal, and pay for a fraction of its care, feeding, milking and housing to the farmer each month (about $50 a month for a single "share" of the animal). And as part of the agreement, you were entitled to your share of your animal's milk, delivered to your doorstep. Not buying a half gallon of raw milk per week for $50 per month.. no no.. no milk has been purchased.

To be fair, raw milk is to pasteurized milk as whole milk is to skim milk. Not worth dying over though.
