"Turtle" can refer to both land and marine testudines
The English language makes this way too complicated. Just call all of them 'shield toads' and you're good.

All shield-toads are shield-frogs, but not all shield-frogs are shield-toads.

"Shield toad" is what "turtle" in German literally means, if you didn't know.
