I am planning on buying a 6950xt and I want a 1440p 240hz monitor to accompany it i was thinking about these: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/gigabyte-m27q-x-vs-dell-alienware-aw2723df/31657/34684?usage=3623&threshold=0.10 I also want a case with fans included on the front and back, ideally minimal or no rgb update: going for a 7800xt instead. what do you think of the o11 air mini?

Howdy yall. I'm looking to upgrade my current setup. I had SLI 1080s back when the 1080s came out but now no games support SLI, so I'm essentially down to a single 1080 and I'm struggling to play some new games.

Anyway, looking for a suggestion for a new "future proof" card that is compatible with my setup and if there are significant bottlenecks elsewhere. Im also not too keen on all of the different versions of each card. I assume my i7 needs to be updated as well but I'm not that bright. Willing to spend the $ but don't want something that's unnecessary.

Here's my current setup (I have 32gb memory instead of 16gb) https://pcpartpicker.com/b/3h4CmG

Yes I picked it because of the name Yes I understand I made poor financial decisions in 2016, but hey, it's gotten me this far. Just lookin for help

Hi guys, I have a Legion laptop (3070ti) and I use It mainly for video editing and gaming. If I work with 10bits I have more fidelity in HDR or graded in Rec709?

Windows 11 keeps trying to install different stuff, notifying you about how great edge is, requires new hardware, and more. Windows 12 is rumored to be cloud only with a subscription?

What will do you?

Hello gamers, this bad boy arrived today and it's the first time I've encountered 3 PCIe power slots. I'm familiar with using 1 cable and using the daisy chained 8 pin to handle the 2 slots. Since my Gigabyte 80+ G 1000W came with 3 of these PCIe cables I'm assuming this setup is correct? I'm probably needlessly worrying that I'll brick this.

To be exact, each cable is an 2+6 pin into the PSU while the opposite end is 2 (daisy chained) 2+6 pins. My worry is rooted in not being familiar with the daisy chained bits importance.

Recently I have had an issue that whenever I connected an external monitor to my laptop it would just freeze. This is on an Asus laptop with nvidia graphics.

The only way I managed to solve it was by following this solution https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-reset-external-monitors-settings/b3a53cef-e54f-4410-b09e-6846fa297a3f

The solution was essentially deleting these reg folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Connectivity
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\ScaleFactors

With this, all configuration is deleted and when you connect a monitor you may need to reconfigure if it's extended, duplicated, etc.

Hope this is helpful to others.

  • RED = Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut
  • GREEN = PTM 7950 (no idea if the original or some fake but it works, bought from random seller on Aliexpress)
  • before Arctic MX-4 was hitting TJmax 110C at 312W (good temps comparable to Carbonaut for first few days after application then drastic increase in short time due to pumpout issue)
  • stock paste was hitting TJmax 110C at 255W (when I got the card it was used and already almost 2y old)

Unfortunately I don't have any data for the MX-4 and stock paste to put in the graph.

Testing was done with TimeSpy GPU Test 2 on a loop for 10 loops.

In the current market, the A580 doesn't look to be very attractive, compared to other intel gpus.

But something very interesting is 8GB of vram at under 200$. In this market where nvidia puts all the vram in AI gpus, it's a nice number to see.

Hopefully intel battlemage (next intel gen) can disrupt the market with true competition.

As per the title. I have a Monsgeek M1 and the 4 keys which are default for home, page up, page down and end are up for reassigning for something more useful. Just want to get ideas but also start a discussion.

I've had my current laptop (dell g5 15, 9th gen i7, 1660ti, 16gb RAM) for 6 years now, and its great for running every game aside from cp2077 at med-high graphics, 60fps smoothly. its on its on its way out though (mostly the issue is cp2077, brings it to its knees, 50fps on low at best)

either way, looking to build something that can do the same as this thing did but at 1440p 120+ fps. what sort of budget will I need for that?

tldr: how much would it cost to build a PC that can run 1440p 120+ fps high settings for the next 5 or so years. ty all :)

And I installed Linux. And it’s awesome.

EDIT: yes, the GPU was a bit tilted. Fixed it now!

So I just built a new PC. Updated windows 10 for the first time, and rebooted. When I rebooted, a program popped up called Auto Driver Installer from Asus (which is my motherboard). I figured it came from a Microsoft update, launched it with admin rights, and it didn't find anything. I pinned it to the taskbar, and rebooted. However, it deleted itself and I can't find it anywhere on the computer now.

Is that normal behavior or did I just get root kitted? I have half a mind to just send it all back to newegg lol.

Is it safe to flash latest UEFI or does it have to be updated incrementally 1 at a time, or every second release, etc?

What is the best method for paste for Noctua air cooler? Do I put 5 tiny dots? Do I do an X pattern? Which one?

Hey folks!

I have a WD easystore 14 TB External HDD connected to my Plex server (running on windows 11).

I am using about 4 TB of it, but not for anything truly important. It’s storing plex media mostly.

I’d like to use it for storing memories. But how do I trust it?

What are good tools for me to keep a check on the drive so that I can hopefully get enough warning when it starts losing sectors?

I have some tool installed based on recommendations online and I started a “surface test” of the disk and it said it’ll take a measly 300 hours. Not ideal.

My old sandisk SATA ssd was starting to get really slow for some reason. The SMART data and the sandisk SSD dashboard app were saying the SSD was healthy, but its performance wasn't anywhere near what it was when brand new.

When benchmarked, it was all over the place with looong access times:

Sooo I decided to take the opportunity to upgrade the SSD to something faster - ended up grabbing a Transcend 512GB drive, with onboard DRAM

There were two problems though:

  • My motherboard doesn't support NVMe (at least officially)
  • My only available PCIe slot is an x1/single lane

After researching, I realised that the single PCIe lane would still give me almost 1GB/s in real world usage - even though its far from the 3GB/s the drive is rated for, it's double the speed of SATA and it's worlds apart from my Sandisk ssd lol.

Ordered an NVMe to PCIe adapter, and proceeded to chop up my PCIe slot to make it fit:

PCMR NSFW

It took a while since I don't own a dremel 🤪

Once that was done, I kapton taped up the exposed metal bits on the NVMe adapter, that could short on a mobo heatsink nearby.

In it goes!! (The GPU went in after the pic lol)

After re running the benchmarks, OMG the speed difference is insane, although it's limited by that single PCIe lane.

I was caught off guard by something else though. After cloning my existing install to the new NVMe SSD, it booted right up, with the original Sandisk drive gone. My BIOS does not even recognise the NVMe drive as a disk drive, and there are no settings anywhere in there for it.

BIOS person, thank you whoever you are, you saved me needing to do more jank to get my unsupported NVMe drive working!

I am more than happy so far with the dramatic speed increase compared to the SATA drive. I can now actually shut down my desktop when I'm not using it 🥲

I'm in the market for a new monitor and I wanted to get a ultrawide, I almost exclusively play videogames on my PC. I found some good candidates, but because of price I'm heavily leaning towards a flat panel instead of a curved one, namely AOC U34G3X.

Is a flat ultrawide panel much worse than a curved one for gaming? I've used flat panels since they started selling it, but the longer diagonal scares me a bit. I'm currently using a 27" flat panel.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

Hello everyone. I'm one of those rare sea birds that in 2023 still rides an i7 2600K OCd @ 4.8 GHz since launch day.

I've been poking and experimenting in and out of more recent computers but aside from the GPU upgrade, I haven't really decided to let my i7 2600K retire.

It's just that I can't feel the "fastness" in new builds, however I honestly didn't spend much time with a current gen high end machine.

Seeing as we are getting closer to yet another generation of AMD and Intel's, do you guys think it will be worth it?

My full specs are: i7 2600K @ 4.8 GHz Gskill 32 GB 2133 CL10 DDR3 ASRock Z77 Extreme 6 (I swapped an Asus one year after when Z77 was released) 750W Corsair PSU 2x 500GB Raid0 Samsung Evo 2x 500GB Raid0 Crucial MX500 AMD 6750 XT along with a QHD 27" 165 Hz (started with an HD5870, then TO 380 now RX 6850XT)
