I like ASUS STRIX B650E-F WIFI Gaming and would like to pair it with 7800X3D. Feature wise it has everything i need + high end audio chip. Did Asus fix their BIOS drama or should i choose another MBO?

TUF F15 fx506hm BIOS 315 (self.pcmasterrace)

Anyone got any idea how performance is compared to 313? I updated via the myAsus app, but it seems that asus removed the update from the servers. Does anyone know why? i've noticed the CPU is getting a bit hot (everything is clean and repasted with mastergel maker) and i honestly don't trust asus especially on bios related things. Let me know if i should roll back the BIOS to 313.

I'd like to add to anyone who has bought this laptop, the asus wifi drivers (MT7921) suck, they just suck and asus knows about it. Download the drivers from lenovo and you wont experience all the wifi problems (thanks again asus).

I've had a Sound Blaster AE-5 Plus for about nine months. During that time, I've been experiencing a persistent crackling issue. I finally did some research, found some different solutions which reportedly worked for folks, tried a few, and one finally worked for me! Apparently, a bunch of things can cause this crackling issue.

In my case, it was the equalizer! I just had to disable that and bam! Problem solved! If only Creative had just left that feature disabled by default. Or in my case, the developer of the open-source drive, since I'm on Linux. The funny thing about it is that, depending on the cause, this crackling issue isn't limited to a single operating system or a single driver; Windows and Linux users alike are experiencing this problem - and Linux users like myself have to use an open-source driver (not that we mind) because Creative isn't interested in supporting Linux.

Creative would do themselves a big favor if they just had the equalizer disabled by default. Then people could notice the crackling only after enabling the equalizer and realizing right away that the equalizer was the cause of the crackling. Creative could probably improve sales and prevent returns.

If you're experiencing this issue and disabling the equalizer doesn't solve the problem, some other solutions I found from my research are disabling G-Sync, switching to a different version of the Nvidia driver, and switching the sound filter to fast roll-off.

You also might need to turn off extra stuff like Crystalizer, Dialog Plus,, and Smart Volume.

Hello PCMR,

I'm currently dabbling in a side project and want to be as economical as possible, both in money and space, on getting an NVidia setup. My use cases, sorted in order of importance:

  1. AI side project dabbling (yes, Transformers, but also some old school stuff like ConvNets, GANs, basically to catch up on some domain knowledge)
  2. CUDA / C++ Torch dabbling: uncovering some lower layers below PyTorch
  3. Distributed Systems learning: it would be nice to run a Kubernetes cluster without wiring physical Ethernet cables to a switch :')
  4. General dev: Being able to run an emulator and 10 tabs would be nice
  5. Gaming: nothing special, maybe Microsoft Flight Sim?

I've been out of the PC game since the age of GTX 9xx, and no longer consider myself an informed shopper, would love to get some recommendations, and even some guidance via Socratic method so that I can be more clear about my actual requirements. Thank you so much for your time, even if you just spent it reading :)

Advice on upgrading GPU (self.pcmasterrace)
submitted 2 years ago by Lorgres to c/pcmasterrace

Hi, with the upcoming CP2077 DLC increasing the system requirements I'm thinking of upgrading my system.

I was hoping you guys could give me some feedback on my plan, since my experience with building PCs is fairly limited.

My current setup: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (12) @ 3.967GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 16GB OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS (Kernel 6.2)

From what I've been seeing when monitoring load levels my biggest bottleneck right now is the GPU. I'm not too sure about the CPU either, but it seemed fine for now.

My plan is to buy an Intel ARC GPU. I'm thinking of getting a 770 (8GB) since those are around 280€. I was planning on waiting for the second generation Arc cards but those are still a year away. The 16GB version of the 770 is around 100€ more and I couldn't find a reputable vendor (if anyone knows a good german vendor that carries it let me know) so I'll probably not get that one. I also checked and the Ryzen 5 3600 should have support for resizable BAR, which is required for good performance with Arc cards.

Do you guys think this is a reasonable upgrade or will my CPU just create a huge bottleneck?

I've got the Samsung Odyssey G65B 32". Upgraded from a 165Hz IPS AOC AG271QG. So far so good. It's definitely much faster response time and it's so smooth as long as I can maintain the FPS high. Though mainly the colors and contrast stand out the most. I was worried about QC issues but did not notice anything out of whack yet. The only annoying thing which I'll probably never use is the built in Tizen OS to make it work more like a TV. I think that's just unnecessary. I did not even bother to connect it to network.

Bluetooth doesn't work on my Razr mouse anymore and my brother has also had bad charging issues with his Razr. Thinking of switching to a different brand, so what do you all use?

I've always found the "master race" moniker on Reddit subs really offputting/distrubing. Why repeat that here? It could just as easily be called "PC Enthusiast" or something totally normal.

But the model I bought (MSI Ventus) doesn't have LED or RGB support. Literally unusable because how can I enjoy gaming if my GPU doesnt light up?!

PC is in a bios loop (self.pcmasterrace)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by DeriHunter to c/pcmasterrace

Hi guys, today my pc freezed so I reset and since then it only boots to bios or to black screen that said no media available. I tried to create a Windows 11 bootable usb, but I have an old Mac so I can't install wonderiso. I tried to create from terminal and not sure it worked because nothing happened. I reset bios and even update it and it didn't help.

I fear that my ssd died but I don't know how to make sure in the current condition. Any suggestions? what should I do?

I have an ssd replacement but not sure my bootable usb is working. Any advice will be welcomed.

Edit: actually the problem is bigger because I have 2 ssd and on hdd set on my pc (and another on laying around the house lol) I don't know on which ssd the windows is installed

I know laptops don't have HDMI In ports but I was thinking I can buy an Elgato USB adapter or some HDMI capture card to act as a monitor with OBS.

I've seen videos of ppl recording gameplay using the capture card but is it possible to extend my laptop display as well with the adapter?

Right now I'm using the Windows wireless display feature and it works well but there's still a bit too much latency and it times out whenever I alt+tab windows so I'd prefer a wired solution.

I've got a problem. I'm a technology hoarder. I still have the first PC I bought myself some 15 years ago cause "I might use it for something!"

My desktop after that one is an unRAID box. The one after that is my "lab" PC (3d printing, embedded projects etc) and then finally, my current generation main PC.

I want to upgrade my main PC soon (can't run new games, CPU and GPU limited), which means potentially kicking everything else "down the chain" to a new purpose as it gets a slightly better version of itself. I find the thought of this exhausting though. So much configuration/setup to give upgrades to things whose existence is only because I didn't want to part with functioning hardware.

My current thought is to "break the cycle" by condensing all non-primary functions to my current PC, as an unRAID box hosting everything other than main gaming PC. From there, the rule needs to be tech goes into one of those two boxes, or it gets sold/donated.

What do you all think. Is that reasonable? How do you manage your spare equipment post upgrade?

I need longer display cables for a better managed cable situation but I'm not entirely sure on what to buy.

I have an 160htz 2k Ultrawide and another 2k Ultrawide stacked on top of that. Does length matter? I have a standing desk too

I guess what Im wondering is, is there a recommended cable brand or just get whatever, and does length matter for performance?

Appreciate any assistance

3700 to 8700k for $200CAD? (self.pcmasterrace)
submitted 2 years ago by jteb22 to c/pcmasterrace

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/141603

Hello there! I'm posting this on the lemmy.ca instance cause I guess most people here would be used to dealing with CAD.

So my situation is the following. I have an i7 3700 with a P8Z77-V that I use for 1200p gaming, mostly Paradox games. I wanna start playing Hogwarts Legacy and I definitely feel I need to beef this up.

Last year I bought an AS-IS i7 8700 on eBay for $125, which I only got to test this week. I bought an ASUS B365M V5 and 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 for $165CAD. Lo and behold, the i7 8700 is broken af and I can only get to Windows by disabling every single CPU feature and using only 1 core.

So I've sunk $165 on the LGA1151 platform. I have a chance to get an 8700k for $200, or an 8700 for $150 (and a bit of travel). Any suggestions? Thanks!
