Edit - I don't know why the the imdb link is shown in french. I assure you this is not a french film.

Seems like a great time to revisit this classic. It's got Bud Cort, a great soundtrack, political commentary, and some familiar events.

It won the "Jury Prize" at Canne in 1970.

Just watch the original roadhouse.

I feel like everyone has had a movie partially spoiled by a trailer but I also feel like descriptions, movie posters, and even genre tags can be a give away and make a plot twist or scene less impactful.

One movie I vaguely remember watching without any context was the 2021 movie Oxygen. I enjoyed it but I feel like it would have been slightly more predictable if I had looked at the genre tags and that would have effected my enjoyment.

I feel like you need to have a pretty good sense of someone's tastes to make a "trust me"-style recommendation like this.

Thread where you can discuss the movies that you watched during the month and would recommend. All movies are acceptable not only the ones released during the month.

  • Be careful, this is a very disturbing movie
  • Make sure you watch the uncut version, some important scenes were cut from the first US release
  • Steve Buscemi named this film one of his favorite, this movie inspired Quentin Tarantino to write Natural Born Killers. More about its legacy on wiki

The uncut version is on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXjQCjNZeME

It's a bit hard to describe but I felt like both had moments of spiraling confusion with the protagonist watching their worlds fall apart around them that I found really captivating.

I'm trying to think of other examples but The Fall and The Father are ones that came to mind. They are both fantastic films I'd highly recommend.

[email protected] mentioned mother! (2017) which was the other example that was on the tip of my tongue.

Originally released as Wes Craven's New Nightmare in 1994, this movie was sort of a warmup in meta horror before Craven directed Scream two years later. It's arguably the best of the seven A Nightmare on Elm Street sequels and assumes a more serious, darker tone. If you're looking for that cheese established in the sequels (which Craven didn't direct, by the way), it ain't here.

imdb synopsis: "A profile of an ancient city and its unique people, seen through the eyes of the most mysterious and beloved animal humans have ever known, the Cat."

Streaming availability: https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/kedi

It's a nice low key documentary about cats and their effect on the residents of Istanbul. It's really well shot, and it goes without saying cat owners would find it most interesting. You don't have to be a cat person to appreciate it, though. Yeah, it's a fascinating take on Istanbul urban life, with little slice of life stories here and there. Also, cats!
