The first function is probably familiar from some other interfaces: filter out posts according to certain keywords.

The second is possibly a little less familiar, but the idea would be like following hashtags on other federated microblogging services like Misskey or Mastodon or the like, except instead using keywords since Lemmy currently doesn't support hashtags.

Emphasis on the "or" here, as an interface that has only one of either is of interest!

I'm looking for a client that does what Liftoff proposes and that is compatible with instances like lemm.ee

The idea is having a unified view from multiple accounts/instances.

Thanks in advance.

The aim of a streamlined user interface is appreciated, but the current trend towards extreme minimalism can be counterproductive. It often leads to a cumbersome experience where accessing common features or information requires unnecessary navigation.

Take, for instance, the display of the author's name and instance. Certain Lemmy applications deem the instance trivial and choose to hide it, while others omit the author's details from the main feed entirely, necessitating extra steps to uncover them.

Another example is the ability to view upvotes and downvotes as distinct figures. While some may only want the aggregate score, the absence of this feature overlooks the preferences of users who value this detail.

Implementing optional features like displaying author names, instances, or separate up/downvote counts gives users more control over their app experience. This way, those who prefer a clean interface can keep it that way, while those who value specific details can have them readily available.

How should our community treat out-of-date and abandoned Apps?

Sometimes a dev is away for an extended period of time, then returns to development. Sometimes an app is officially abandoned but still functions well. Sometimes an app may be under active development but not yet compatible with the latest version of Lemmy.

Should these apps be excluded from our Apps list? Which ones? What criteria should we use? Should we maintain a list of "Old Apps" for posterity, as a code database, etc?

This is a place to discuss extensions, scripts, and other tools.

How should we include them in our community? Should we include them in our apps list, or should they be a separate list? Which scripts and tools should be included? Should they be listed in a similar way to the apps list or do we want to see different information about them?

Greetings, everyone! My name is Andres, and I am the developer of LemmyApps.com. Today, I would like to share what I have been working on for the past several months.

What is LemmyApps.com?

LemmyApps.com helps users discover Lemmy apps that best suit their needs. Whether that means apps that are open source, free, etc.

This is the first public release, so expect bugs!

What does this site offer?

  • Use the API to get apps, releases and platform information.
  • Sort apps by last commit, last release, downloads and many more attributes.
  • Filter apps by platform, open source, free, and in-app purchases.
  • Users can submit apps and update their listings with new releases easily.
  • Users can claim apps and update their author profiles.
  • Supports every platform and sub-platform -- including lesser known stores.
  • Every 6 hours, information is aggregated from GitHub, GitLab, Play Store and the App Store.

Roadmap

  • [ ] More modern and responsive design
  • [ ] Add filtering for specific Features
  • [ ] Add product images via carousel
  • [x] Support additional platforms like Codeberg

FOSS Commitment

LemmyApps.com will be FOSS soon. I am looking for a .NET developer interested in helping review the code for any security issues. Please email me at support at lemmyapps dot com.

Feedback

Please share your feedback in the comments below!

P.S. If you think the design is ugly, feel free to use the API to make a prettier website! I invite friendly competition. After all, my goal is to help spread the adoption of Lemmy apps.

What are the best (Android) apps which have a "horizontal swipe through posts" viewing option?

  • Eternity currently has the best implementation of this feature I've found, but as overall development has stagnated, I'm looking for other options.
  • Connect has a setting for this feature, but it is still experimental and has many bugs.
  • Boost kind of has this feature, but it requires a button tap to view the comments, and then another tap to exit the comments, which doesn't save any time/effort compared to scrolling through posts.

Are there any other apps with this feature that I am unaware of?

Would any devs consider implementing this in their app?

Thanks in advance!

I generally use the default experience that my instance gives of Lemmy, but there are some Lemmy extensions available in the Firefox addons store but I don't generally like to install many extensions apart from the strictly necessary ones, and among them I have Violentmonkey because I need it in some places.

Does anyone know some userscripts to improve the Lemmy experience?

It would be a good idea to add an "add-ons" category in the megathread and a "userscripts" section.

If anyone is interested its uo for grabs and have a large userbase and it is kinda the point of making apps open source . So godspeed to whoever takes up the mantle if no one does goodbye lift off i guess.

Are there any tools to visualize community growth over time like subredditstats?

62

I find it really annoying. The apps I've used previously without that feature don't work anymore since the update.

Edit: Thanks all!

I think this community is one that should be very straightforward. It is a community to post about lemmy apps, tools, features, comparisons, etc. It's also a valuable space where app creators and users can interact. This makes it a special place where creators can share best practices with one another and users can share their appreciation and discuss feature requests.

I like lemmy. I like lemmy apps. That's why I'm here. I appreciate the many different approaches that developers take to give users a positive experience, and I think this community is a neat part of that positive experience.

Okay, the elephant in the room: we have come through a challenge with a moderator who was not a good fit for this community. They approached it with a particular agenda, and were more hands-on than this community warrants. That user has since closed their account and removed many of their posts. Some of those posts were helpful, and I trust that members of this community will recreate the content that was valuable. I also want to express appreciation for the many active members of this community who have recently shared their thoughts about what this community could look like in the future, and who spoke up about restoring stability to the community. I also want to acknowledge @[email protected] for stepping in and providing a bridge as an admin.

In a community like this, a moderator (or team) should be maintaining of stability and civility while remaining otherwise invisible. My only agenda is to be consistent and predictable; open and transparent communication is key.

So, that being said, Please feel free to share any meta thoughts, questions, or requests in this thread. Otherwise, lets get back to the interesting part of exploring the different Lemmy Apps and Tools!

Basically, title.

I know Lemmios does as I found it searching for "modlog" in this community, but couldn't find information on other apps.

I have been told Sync doesn't support it, but that's all I know

Hello everyone. I apologize for the rollercoaster ride in this community over the past week and a half. I have one more change to announce: @[email protected] has been removed as the community moderator. This is in response to multiple private complaints from community members, as well as behaviors inside and outside this community that were brought to the admin team’s attention.

I made the mistake of shortcutting the usual lemmy.world processes when I appointed the user as the new mod. If anyone would like to volunteer to become the new community moderator, you can email [email protected] and make a request. The lemmy.world community team will follow their process from there.

Again, I apologize for all the rapid changes.

As always this community is run for its users and your complaints will not be falling on deaf ears so you now don't have to mark foss or non foss or anything just be civil . Also if you have any feedback do tell and it will be taken inti consideratiom. Also please don't ask to make this foss only community because i won't and major part of the user base does'nt like it and thinking back it was a bad idea overall sorry.

I have put in a lot of effort but still mistakes like including some abandoned apps which are unusable or excluding some app that has made itself cross platform or if i missed an app or tool you can tell me that too and i will add or remove accordingly. This post will be pinned in community for review of the users for some day and will be unpinned after.

Hello lemmings, I'm hoping you can help me find the perfect app for Lemmy browsing. In the before times, I used Relay for years on the old subs. Since I migrating I primarily used Sync, which is fine, but I cannot create an alt account login in it on lemmynsfw. I also have used Thunder, which I like but account switching is painful and it takes several minutes for communities to load when switching between accounts.

What's the best app for me? One with mod controls would also be helpful.

Edit: Whoops I left out the important stuff. Mobile, and Android, FOSS preferred

It certainly is not that we don't have enough content to post here or interact with because this /c/ supports crosspostung. All opinions will be considered.

Also if there is any new apps to add to tge megathread or anything to remove from it do suggest that too as i don't want to make another thread for updating it as i try as much as its possible to keep it updated https://lemmy.today/post/6716339 .

On one hand it is available for so many platforms and some instances do run under .19 on another those instances are going to update any day now and lift off seems really abandoned . https://lemmy.today/post/6716339 .

The changes made to community are withdrawn because users opinions . But from now on when making a post your first word on tge title should be [NOT FOSS] or [FOSS] respectively. Also i have no intention in anything expect help new users find foss apps i hope you all understand that.

I'm looking for a way to pull images from my Lemmy feed and display them on desktop tiles, similar to Scrolldit. Ideally, the images would refresh every so often.

Does anything like this exist?

Thank you
