Are there any launchers that have Nova's 2 best features?

  1. Swipe-to-open folders (with tap to open the first item in the folder)
  2. Set any icon you want as an app icon?

I've tried Lawnchair and it was missing these 2 features. I will switch to any launcher that supports these!

The Shoe Bomber was caught because he was trying to light a fuse with a lighter. You cannot light a bomb with a pocket knife. If you want to ban something from planes, ban lighters

Yeah, and even "fawning" is generous. One just says, "There are some aspects of the Minimal Phone that sound appealing." Not exactly a rave review

This looks cool but... I'm nervous about pre-ordering from a company I've never heard of. Anyone know anything about these guys?

I didn't read Solrize's comment as saying "There shouldn't be paywalls," just asking the very legitimate question as to how they will interact with federation.

Interestingly, 404 just solved something kinda related: they developed a way for subscribers to get a custom RSS feed address, so they can access paywalled articles directly in their RSS reader. TMK, they are the first publication to do this. I imagine they would do something similar for federation. (I believe that if any of the custom RSS feeds show huge traffic numbers, 404 shuts it down, but I'm not sure)

"We're gonna get all the poors off the road so it's only nice cars"

I genuinely believe that car owners could be tricked into supporting FuckCars policies by a very crafty politician/campaign. It would work like this:

  1. Proclaim your love of cars. Loudly. "I want to make our city the best city in the world for drivers!"
  2. "What are the biggest problems drivers face today? Traffic and parking! Therefore... We need to open up roads and parking spaces..."
  3. "And that's why we're going to cap the number of cars that can enter downtown. With increased public transit, we can free up these roads for drivers! That way: more parking, less traffic, a better life for drivers"

Do the same thing for bikes:

  1. "These bikers want to share the road, but studies have shown that whether you use sharrows, plastic bollards, it doesn't matter: people still get hurt.
  2. And here's the thing: when a car hits a cyclist, it's bad for everyone, including the driver. Nobody wants to hit a cyclist. But the sad truth is that it might just not be possible to share the road
  3. "That's why I'm proposing that we make some roads car-only, to protect cyclists." [Crowd of drivers cheer, and you quickly say:] "Also we'll make some streets bike-only, for the same reason." [And then when you get in office, just be like "Yeah the highway is for cars"]

I'm available for speeches if anyone's hiring

Surprisingly, one of the only groups to use this calendar IRL was a giant international corporation: Kodak

There's a push to get OpenReads to work with BookWyrm

This happens a lot: I apply for a job and they ask for my complete address. Why? I would understand if they just want to know what city/town I'm in: That has bearing on how easily I can get to the office.

But why do they need to know my street address?

The only thing I can think: Indeed/LinkedIn/take-your-pick is building a profile of me based on this info, using my street as a proxy for my income, credit score, or, ultimately, for my social class.

From now on, when they ask me, I'm just going to put a rich person's address. For this one I used a Brooklyn townhouse where Maggie Gyllenhaal and one of the Saarsgaards lives.

Last year Elon Musk accidentally revealed that he has a burner account on Twitter called @ErmnMusk.

Now that account is gone.

I'm looking for an archive: its tweets, its likes, anything and everything. Does anyone know where to find?

Wow, that was it. Thank you!

Fair question! But yeah, I'm seeing this issue with my lemm.ee and not my lemmy.world

Can't load my own profile (self.eternityapp)
submitted 7 months ago by mulcahey to c/[email protected]

I'm unable to load my own profile in Eternity. Having this issue across multiple accounts. Tapping "Profile" in the sidebar brings up my profile but it's empty, no posts load. Anyone know how to fix?

I just joined lemm.ee from lemmy.world. I was drawn to lemm.ee bc it federates with all the right instances.

But my feed is behaving oddly. (I view Lemmy through the Eternity app on Android.)

  • I'm seeing posts from communities I haven't subscribed to, even when I view my "Subscribed" feed
  • I get a weird error when I try to comment on some posts (in [email protected], most recently)

These issues didn't happen previously. Anyone know how to fix?

I'm confused. I've been using this extension for years on desktop without this issue. I think it has an option where you can install a companion conversion app on your machine and bypass the QR code. Am I mistaken?

I've been on the hunt for a good (free) tool for collaborating with another screenwriter. This week, I learned of Etherpad, an online, open-source, realtime text editor. Basically, an open source Google Docs.

Out of the box, Etherpad doesn't have much advantage over Google Docs for screenwriting. It doesn't have any screenwriting-specific features like autocomplete for characters' names or scene headings.

But here's what's cool: Etherpad is customizable via plugins.

Could some enterprising developer write plugins that makes Etherpad into the best collaborative software for screenwriters? I think this could work!

These are the plugins that already exist that would be useful for screenwriters:

  • Align
  • Heading
  • Markdown
  • Spellcheck
  • Comments page
  • Desktop notifications
  • Ether-o-meter (displays metrics, could be good for sprints)
  • Table of contents

Someone would have to build a few screenwriting-specific plugins to make this work for Fountain. Basically the features we find in Better Fountain, which makes Visual Code Studio into a good screenwriting app.

  • Smart autocomplete for recurring characters and scenes, as well as title page keys.
  • Go straight to writing dialog after a parenthetical by pressing enter, while the cursor is still inside it
  • Maybe a way to generate real-time previews, the way that Better Fountain does.

What do you think?

I'm searching for a good RSS feed reader, but can't find a perfect one. Features I'm seeking:

  • Offline reading
  • Page turning/scrolling via on-screen buttons
  • E-ink friendly color scheme

Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Reabble: I love this one, but it doesn't support offline reading beyond a few articles.
  • FeedMe: This one's great too, but page turning is only possible via physical volume buttons. My tablet doesn't have those.
  • Handy Reader: This one seems pretty good, but you can't change the color on the left-side drawer (where the list of feeds is) so I can't read it on an e-ink screen.

Does anyone know of an RSS reader that meets these needs?

I'm looking for a way to pull images from my Lemmy feed and display them on desktop tiles, similar to Scrolldit. Ideally, the images would refresh every so often.

Does anything like this exist?

Thank you
