Just learned how to knit two at a time! I have second sock (and mitten) syndrome really, really bad so this is a lifesaver!

Just started some mitts, here's the pattern: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/doppelbock-mitts

Bobble paws (lemmy.world)

I made these a good few years back. A friend commissioned these for a present for her friend, and they were highly appreciated, for what I heard.

The pattern for the ruffles came from Pinterest, the bobble pattern I charted out on a piece of paper. Forethought thumbs, no gusset. The bows are made of lingerie lace, that's stretchy. Buttons and beads were chosen from my neverending stash and sewing them on took several hours.

For bobbles like this I learned to knit backwards without flipping the work. It's slower for me and I do like 8 stitches max but still felt more efficient than flipping the work after every 5-8 stitches.

Edited: Added theme to title, thanks for the nudge @[email protected] :)

I made this as a birthday present for a friend. It is my first succesful project using circular needles. I used 5mm needles, with 40cms cable for the body of the beanie, then switched to a 120cm cable and used the magic loop technique for the decreases.

It is mt first time trying this "bubble" stitch and I was so nervous doing the K4B and 'undoing' stitches lol.

Yarn is worsted weight Dreams in color 0002 from local store Revés Derecho

the sock. I had been knitting for years and decided that no plain sock would do for my first.

I know the new theme went up this morning but I forgot that these fit the homewares theme.

Not sure if I should be doing it this but I don’t really have any other options. If anyone has a better solution I’m all ears 😅

Now the heatwave needs to end so I can wear it.

I finished the first one, on to the second one. The pattern is a mix of autumn and mountain charts by Jamie Lomax

Any tips on a more suitable first project welcome, or any patterns.

I've found a pattern that seems simple once I learn how to read the pattern itself, ha

Not much progress around here in the past week, and I'm losing momentum... So, to avoid the very real danger of giving up before this sweater gets both its sleeves: Here I am, starting my magic loop, two-at-a-time, top-down sleeves. These are a lot of firsts for me, and I might be a little terrified :D

Ok admittedly before I set homewares as the theme I should've checked if I even had anything to submit myself. Turns out the vast majority of my home stuff is crochet, but with one exception: Kindle Death!

I made this in 2013 out of cheapo acrylic, it was my first ever attempt at colourwork and even despite frogging and reknitting, it still ended up a bit tight. My old Kindle just about fit into it 😅

Still though, pretty dang cool if I do say so myself.

I am still at a point where I have to focus on the knitting, so right now the most I can do while knitting is listening to music that I need to learn, or participating in a conversation that does not take 100% of my brainpower.

EDIT: Revelation. I can also play idle/incremental games while knitting.

I'm the crocheter who asked where to start learning to knit a few days ago. I'm now working on my first project.

I'm making a hat! Currently on my 5th row and absolutely hooked (forgive the crochet pun).

Last year I decided to knit myself a fun pair of socks from some Halloween themed yarn, but only ended up with one complete at the end of October. So this weekend I finally cast on the second one, and managed a couple of inches on Sunday while keeping up with NFL live chatter across Lemmy and Mastodon!

Any other NFL fans out there? Obligatory "Go Pack Go!"

Pattern is Aquaphobia Socks by Crystal Flanagan, and tbh I didn't like the first sock much at the time but now it's sat for a whole year, I actually love it and don't know what Past Me was thinking 🤷‍♀️

Can't find a photo of it, alas, but I'll take one for next week so you can see wtf I'm talking about.

Today is an extremely long stressful day full of Life Stuff ™ and I'm trying not to freak out, so will be knitting on this all day to keep me calm and I'll update with how far I got 😄

WIP knitters, show me what you got!

Question for knitters (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by [email protected] to c/knitting

What was your first project? I've been dying to learn how to knit, with the eventual goal of making socks, but can't decide where or how to start.

I would consider myself an advanced beginner to intermediate crocheter, but when my mom tried to teach me to cast on for knitting I went cross eyed.

Where's a good place to start? What would you recommend needles-wise?

Edit: Thank you so much everyone for the advice!

I ordered size 7 circular knitting needles (bamboo) to start. I'm going to try a hat so that I can get some practice knitting in the round.

My needles don't get here until Tuesday, and I can't walk at the moment, so I'm practicing casting on with chopsticks!

Thanks again

Can we talk about the neurotic knitter’s* dream gradient yarn, the Zauberperlen (“magic pearls”)? This is so much fun it’s probably illegal somewhere. @[email protected]

Knit with TruBoo so light and airy for summer. (Bamboo is squirrelly and the ends are not as neatly woven in as when they started)

*edit to fix words... stupid autocorrect and swipe to text ganging up on me

It's September and my summer top is done, which means one thing: My longtime WIP (once frogged, now being re-knitted) is out of the drawer and ready to cover everything in red hair!

Unfortunately, it also means that I'm using my old basic circulars again because I superstitious and afraid of changing needles mid-project). Significantly lesser knitting experience compared to my beloved Reflections.

My contribution to the current theme is also my latest FO: A Thea Top in Cotton/Linen/Viscose.
(Link to Rav-project)

That's what it looks like after one week of wearing and toddler-proofing (we end up dangerously close to a side-boob situation, so it definitely needs layering):

I'm a little proud for managing to weave in all my ends and block it in the last days of August, in time to wear it on our late-summer vacation. The final garment is not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'm learning to love it.

First project I have finished in over 2 years. Casting on a new project now. 😁💜

I know I know, everyone's sick of me posting about these socks. But look! They're done! You probably never have to see them ever again (at least until they come up in a fortnightly theme 😆

Technically I tried to avoid such different colour pooling from one sock to the other, but as you can see I failed miserably. Don't care at all, they're fabulous, sometimes you just have to let the yarn do its thing!

Yarn was one-off hand-dyed, and the pattern is apparently discontinued although there's still the Ravelry page, and also @[email protected] found it on the wayback machine when I posted about it previously, thank you for that!

Pattern is written for DPNs but you can pry my one single circular out of my cold dead hands.

MOAR PICS!

Hi all!

First time posting anything on lemmy or sharing my knitting at all, so I hope I'm doing it right.

I've been knitting since the start of this year, and it's been mostly socks so far (7 pairs and a single if I'm counting right) with the occasional off-item thrown in (shawl, hat, decorations, a single glove). This months work is a fairly standard pair of socks as a gift for a friend, as well as a pair of big, over-the-knee socks with some simple cables for myself.

Baby knitting experts, I need your advice!

A friend of mine is pregnant, and asked if I could possibly do a new version of this old doll someone made for her when she was a baby.

Absolutely, happy to!

Except I have no idea what kind of yarn is both baby-friendly and also will last for 40 years like this one has.

I can probably make up a pattern, but if anyone knows one similar so I don't have to that would also be amazing.

Pointers very welcome, thank you all!

My contribution to the summer vibes is this Gemini Top, knitted in Patons Linen Touch. The yoke detail is just on one side, so you can wear it to the front or the back and it looks right either way.

According to the dates on Ravelry I made this about a year after learning to knit, and I remember being super proud because this was the first time I'd successfully adapted a pattern for my crazy wide hips and had it actually fit and not be too tight! I had to put so many more increases in than the pattern called for. Curse my weird figure 😂

Unfortunately it's also the first time I tried to do "make one" increases from memory, without looking it up. I made a silly mistake and they ended up making visible holes up the side, but it's ok it just looks like a design feature!

Don't wear this one so much any more, it's a bit old and tatty. But I certainly got a lot of use out of it, it was great for casual beach days!

(writing this up made me want to make another one. dammit.)
