Any advice and tips? (self.elitedangerous)
submitted 1 year ago by SinkingLotus to c/elitedangerous

I first started playing before we got space legs. Though, I only logged around 50 hours. I played solo. Spending the vast majority of my time exploring with the FSS. Not moving far from the starting station.

My memory is awful. I made a new save. Completed the opening and then proceeded to finish the entirety of the first tab in training.

So, as for the reason I'm keeping this post.

I'm looking for any advice and tips you might have. Currently I'm struggling most with navigation both in ship and on foot. As well as keeping track of everything.

Although I know than welcome any advice and tips no matter what it's concerning. Even if it's something mentioned in the tutorials and training that didn't click for you until later.

Like the data scanning training for the SRV. I was there for ages trying to figure it out. All because the scanner doesn't show up on the hard points like it would in the ship training.

I will never understand gankers/griefers. Rp I’m all for, but ramming another cmdr to death, inside a station no less? What’s the point? What’s your endgame here? Do you want to play alone? Because that’s what happens. It’s weird and sad. Follow that behavior to its logical conclusion and you’ll just be blocked by everyone you interact with or banned from the game. Tf is the point of that?

I’m not very social but I enjoy playing in open because I like the feeling of the active world. It sucks when there’s someone who’s just there to be an asshole.

That is all.

Last week I finally made the trip to Sag A* I’d been wanting to do since I got the game. Pictures do not do it justice. It’s just… SO damn big.

And I saw some other pretty cool shit along the way! Black hole in a planetary nebula Biggest ring on a brown dwarf I’ve ever seen.

After that I switched to my trusty DBX so I could bust my ass all the way back to the bubble after over a year away.

Keep flying, cmdrs o7. See you in the black.

Hello,

I’m reaching out because I am trying to get back into the world of Elite Dangerous VR, but I’m facing some major performance problems that are seriously putting a damper on my gameplay experience. It’s gotten to the point where even getting to the main menu takes around 5 minutes, and once in-game, I’m getting less than 1 frame per second – even when I’ve dialed down all the graphics settings to the lowest for VR.

I’m hoping some of you might have some insights into what could be causing these performance issues and maybe even offer some suggestions on how I could get back to enjoying the game in VR. Any advice or assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Additional Context:

  • I’ve updated to the current version of Elite Dangerous: Horizons.
  • About 8 months ago, I was playing in VR on low settings and everything ran smoothly. So, this recent struggle is confusing.
  • I launch from the Epic Games Store.
  • I’m using an Oculus Quest 1 headset without a Meta account.
  • I use an Asus TUF Gaming A15 (Model: Asus TUF506) running on Windows 10.

Primary Suspects for the Issue:

  1. Increased Game Requirements: It’s possible that the game’s requirements have shot up, surpassing what my computer can handle now.
  2. Meta Software Issues: Perhaps Meta’s software might be causing these problems as a sneaky way to push users into creating Meta accounts.
  3. Computer Performance Decline: Of course, it’s also plausible that my computer itself is facing issues that are impacting its performance, and it’s just not as fast as it used to be.

Once again, I’d really appreciate any insights or advice you fine folks might have. It’s a real bummer to be held back from exploring the galaxy in VR, and I’m hoping the community’s collective wisdom can help me sort out these technical challenges. Thanks a ton in advance!

o7 CMDRs,

I finally managed to finish my federation rank grind but I'm currently unsure how to proceed further. After searching for a build it shows most of the time people suggesting only engineered corvettes, the problem is I don't know 1 thing about engineering. I know it's kind of a big deal but ATM I just want to try out the vette.

Can anyone recommend a non engineered build for low end PvE combat? Bare in mind I'm literally a noob^^

After stopping and starting once or twice over the course of a year, crashing and nearly dying on an extremely high G planet, mistaking a white dwarf for a neutron star and nearly burning to a crisp, and making as few civilized pit stops as possible- yesterday I finally arrived in Colonia.

Next week I start my next journey to Sag A.

Ever since Update 16 gave us nothing new that isn't War-related except magnetic sippy cups at low-grav outposts, I've become disillusioned and very much disappointed in E:D and especially FDev. However, on the other site, whenever I post any comments that give any sort of criticism towards E:D or FDev, I get chastised and ridiculed. It seems that, now, the general consensus is that FDev can do no wrong and E:D is the greatest game ever. I don't agree, I think they both have a lot wrong with them, and this is coming from someone with over 800 hours put into the game and who loves it to death. I guess I was wondering if this place is as much of an echo chamber as the other place, or if I can truly freely air my opinions on certain things about E:D and FDev here

I have picked a mission to kill a pirate. I had to go scan a fuel thing on a planet, and it sent me to this location in a different star system. When i get there, and exit hyperspace at the location, nothing is there. I get a warning that System Link Error: Security response unavailable

But i see no targets. Is this mission broken?

Serverdowntime assumed to end around 16:00 BST.

Btw does anyone also have problems to create a post via browser in this community? I have to use liftoff on android, on pc (no matter of browser) it will stuck at the circle animation when clicking post.

Hey CMDRs! I'm pretty much brand new to the game. I've dipped my toes into a handful of the games systems (hauling, mining, combat, salvaging), and started making credits a few million at a time to upgrade my ships. I'm starting to feel a little lost in terms of overall goals, though; just building up my wallet for the sake of it is losing its luster. What kind of goals should I be looking at to work toward?

This post made at 1200c en route to Lunan Holdings. Nobody warned me.

I present to you, Flyiedge AB-Q C8-21 7. I’ve come across a handful of ELWs before, but this was my first FD. Just had to share it somewhere.

Fly safe, Cmdrs. o7

PSA: If anyone is seeking for a good place for meta-alloys, HIP 17862 11e in the Pleiades has a Thargoid structure with 9 "organic structures" that yield them. 5 near and around the central structure, 2 on the slopes immediately around it and another 2 farther out counter-clockwise from the "leviathan" near the "bones" surrounding the central pit (a bit tricky to find; scouting from air with night vision helps).

There might be better places, haven't scouted many, but of the handful I have, this has the most. The nearest inhabited system is 10 ly away.

tldr: any advice for ingame controls with an android tablet?

Hey, last time i played ED was about 4 years ago and i remember using an android app named panels for a custom button layout usable via an browser. Since time went by and a lot of data loss happened, i’m on a search for an proper android control panel.

At the moment i’m looking at gameglass but i dislike the whole payment and account thing. Also GIC (Gaming Interface Client) from Terence-D looks promising but it’s 2 years since the last update and i haven’t found any good layouts.

Are you guys using something like this or have any tips where to look? Anyway thanks for your time reading this^^

Have a nice day, cheers

Edit: After looking and trying around for 3 days i came to a conclusion:

Game Glass: is the easiest to install and offers 2 layouts for free. BUT you need an Account, it's not running locally (privacy concern) and it's only subsciption based not buyforlife. For my taste the layouts so called shards are a little bit too busy.

EDDiscovery: easy to install and have everything your hearth may desire. You can use it on the same device or locally via browser. But for myself it's overkill in any way and the remote controls feels clunky and not so nice. Totally recommending this for everyone at least to try.

Macro-Deck: free and open-source, easy to install and use but i'm still figuring out how to set up all the buttons. Has also a web client (sadly atm still need internet for client-id but it's on the todo list), a handful of good plugins, it's definitely worth a look. And the best of all, it's not abondonware. This is my pick for now.

Do you dream of visiting Colonia, but don't have the time? Would you make the trip, if you didn't then have to scoop and jump all the way back to the Bubble? The Fleet Carrier Owners Club will convey you effortlessly across these vast distances. Find your ride, dock before the departure date and time, and leave the rest to them.

I needed more space between the halves and saw a youtube video where someone has opened one up a there are 15 through wires plus a ground. Digging though my box-o-cables I remembered that I had a bunch of old HD15 VGA cables that would make great extensions so I spliced HD15 ends and tried it out.

Turns out that VGA cables are not 15 lines through, but bond several pins together. Damnit. A true HD15 serial cable is now en route and I'll get to test out my extension...hopefully by this coming weekend.

I've just managed to get the larger backpack modification and the increased sprint duration (bigger pockets AND lungs!) This has been a game changer for me; it saves so much time. What were your game changers in suits and guns?
