I haven't read any confirmation, but the designs look way too similar to be coincidental.

It would also be fitting that the Bene Gesserit "Witches" should adopt such an implement to test their own subjects, lol.

Reading order? (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Does anyone have a reading order which makes the most sense for someone who's never read or watched anything Dune? Thank you in advance!

I hope this isn't the case, but the timing of the movies is really good to get people into Dune. They'll need the books to fully understand the parallels though.

Hopefully Trump doesn't do the things we suspect he'll do based on what he's said, but, if he does, hopefully it's a moment humanity can learn from (again). Hopefully we come out of this and people stop trusting charismatic leaders. Dune may be more relevant than ever.

Not sure I totally agree with the article writer. But it provides food for thought.

I've watched all the YouTube videos and tiktoks about the spice and the guild navigators.. basically they're what exists instead of decision making computers.

But what do they actually do to operate the ship? Like they looked and saw some shit and now they have to do something about it.

Does the navigator have buttons and levers to configure the drive? Do they just speak words to some sort of helmsman about how to steer? Do they write out instructions? Is there some sort of telepathy or telekinesis the navigator does with the hardware?

Whenever I Google it I just find articles and videos about spice. What about SOP?

“We must negate the machines-that-think. Humans must set their own guidelines. This is not something machines can do. Reasoning depends upon programming, not on hardware, and we are the ultimate program! Our Jihad is a "dump program." We dump the things which destroy us as humans!”

Interesting article about the struggles two linguists had taking Frank Herbert's eclectic Fremen words and turning them into a working conlang (constructed language) for the new movies.

After finishing reading books 1–6 for the first time, I would personally rank them in order of enjoyment:

  1. Dune
  2. Children of Dune
  3. Dune Messiah
  4. God Emperor of Dune
  5. Chapterhouse: Dune
  6. Heretics of Dune

I am honestly not sure if I will re-read books 5 and 6. I did enjoy some parts of Chapterhouse, but overall thought the ending was ho-hum. I was entertained and engaged by the first three novels and found God Emperor to be an interesting philosophical and heady trip and didn't mind the near lack of action. I found books five and six also had interesting parts, but overall didn’t offer as satisfying of reads as a whole.

Now I am faced with the decision as to whether or not to read the next two books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson (Hunters of Dune and Sandworkd of Dune). I know that there are some strong opinions on these two books and that many are not fans, like many also don’t particularly like the last three of Frank Herbert’s books.

I’d like to hear from this community what people’s thoughts are on the series as a whole and the pros and cons of continuing to read the last two books or not. Does it put a satisfying bow on the overall story for those they did read them? Are they worth the time? Would it be best to call it here and re-read the books I did enjoy on occasion? I’m curious about what others have experienced in their readings and interpretations of this series as well. Thanks for any thoughtful replies anyone cares to offer. Keep it flowin’.
