I'd love to make some cold brew now that summer is here!

Anybody had success making it in a french press?

What roast level do you prefer?

What grind seems to work best?

Feel free to drop your cold brew takes!

I've been ordering and visiting some of these roasters at their businesses. They're small, and very knowledgeable. They're worth a visit or an order to test them out.

Koffiestation - Groningen Small roasters that deliver by bike in the city of Groningen. They have a great starter pack and tasting pack.

Black and Bloom - Groningen Winner of several awards with a very cozy shop near the university. Also sells great baked sides.

Fascino Coffee - Weert Medium sized roaster with a great consistent set of beans that you can rely on.

Kahawa Pakaya - Norg Speciality coffee from the eastern countries in Africa. Great flavours in pretty packaging.

Giraffe Coffee - Rotterdam Roasters with an enormous passion for coffee, and you can taste it.

Moyee - Amsterdam Hip and vibrant packaging, they sell a coffee subscription that uses a different microlot every time. Their regular coffee is very reliable and well balanced.

Rum Baba - Amsterdam Bold and unique coffee flavours. Delivers by bike in Amsterdam.

Hey y’all, it’s time to recommend what beans you’ve been brewing with this!

I’ve been brewing with tropical weather from Oynx (https://onyxcoffeelab.com/products/tropical-weather?variant=31862710173794). I’m not usually a blend guy but I’m really digging it. It’s sweet and tea like with a little fruit. It’s great stuff.

Always on the lookout for great roasters (I generally buy a bag of fresh roasted when I am visiting someplace). So who is your favorite local-ish (not necessarily around the corner, but at least within a reasonable driving distance) roaster?

For me:

  • Virginia (northern): Cafe Kreyol
  • Virginia (eastern shore): Eastern Shore Coastal Roasting Company
  • Virginia (Hampton Roads): Pale Horse Coffee

Anybody have good experiences with a subscription?

Been using https://www.lacoffeeclub.com since it's local. I'm happy with it so far, but curious what you all think!

So I have some beans from 2 different roasters, the light roast is a bit old (Great North), and there wasn't much left when my partner brought me another roast that I can't get from out of state that's a medium roast (Philz). That medium roast is almost gone now too, so I mixed them together and made a pour over this morning.

It's pretty interesting, it has those light flowery notes up front, but then finishes with a rich depthness that wasn't apparent when I was brewing the medium roast solo.

Just thought that was interesting... but now I want to hear from you. Do you ever mix beans for your brews, pour over or otherwise? Do you get different flavor profiles when doing so? How about fresh or older beans?

Let me know in the comments below, thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day!

;)

Do you have a go to system for coffee in the morning, if so what is? What tools do you use? What do you want to change?

Hi, this sounds like a dumb question, but how should I "get into" coffee? Most of the time, I just use a Keurig and whatever pods I find at Costco. I know there's an entire world out there of people who know exactly what they're doing, but it's all quite confusing.

If I'm typically only ever making coffee for myself, what should my brewing method be? Nespresso? Pour-over? French press?

And should I be looking to try everything black, or are lattes and whatnot a good way to learn what my tastes are?

Found this video yesterday, and the concept is quite interesting. It's "radial infusion", which means the water infused to the coffee ground from the side, instead of poured over. The video says it will results higher extraction percentage. I do interested and already found a distributor in my country, but does it worth a buy?

One of the best things about coffee is trying new roasters and combinations. Never even heard of these guys before but they’re local so giving them a go!

One of the best parts of a new roaster or bag of coffee is, to me, seeing new bag designs. What’s your favorite roaster designs and do they match the flavors well?

Inclusive of all drinks not just coffee. We even have some hummingbird nectar up top for our little wild friends.

Hi all! Don't kill me but I'm a heathen that just uses a Keurig. I recently got a new one that has an automatic milk frother and it's been fun to use with regular milk.

I think milk has been hurting my stomach though so I thought I'd use a milk alternative. Supposedly alternative milk types can froth, but I found out the hard way that it is dependent on brand, water, and fat content. I've heard of milk alternatives having special "batista editions" that will froth up better, but I'm unfamiliar with what those are.

I tried picking up some almond milk at my local Aldi and it doesn't froth at all.

Are there some more readily available and prominent brands out there that I can pick up that will froth? I have access to Publix, Aldi, and Walmart. I do NOT have access to places like Costco or Trader Joe's. I am not picky about what kind of milk alternative it is at the moment (oat, almond, soy)...I'm just looking for a type and brand that will actually froth.

Thanks all!

Like the title says. I have 2012 Moka Express and the stamp in the bottom says "10" but can't seem to find 10 cup version anywhere.

This seems like a pretty good price for an entry level superautomatic machine. I love my delonghi, but I would have gotten this if it had been available a few months ago.

I don't make coffee super often... because I'm an absolute heretic and drink Java Monster or Cafe Mocha Soylent and occasionally hate myself... but when I do I want a good cup, something not too bitter or burnt-tasting but with a good flavor.

So I'm looking for something that is... y'know, fancier than Folgers but not exactly Kopi Luak either.

My current go-to is Lavazza Intenso. I just got an aeropress (thanks to all the folks on here who recommended it) and I have a hand burr grinder ... somewhere...

So. What should I be trying, assuming I want tasty coffee that isn't priced like it's made of gold?

I was making some steamed iced Americanos (Aerocano) last summer and really enjoyed that. I also enjoy the citros (nitro cold brew with a bit of lemonade) and find them very refreshing! So I decided to combine both and made this.

Simple syrup made with honey, fresh squeezed lemon juice, a double espresso, steamed with crushed ice, and served over a giant ice cube. Dialing in the recipe but it's a delicious refreshing summer drink.

Truly ridiculous name.

Anyway, this may be of interest for those who are looking for a single-dosing "all-purpose" grinder in the sub-$500 segment. Most grinders in this space are regarded as either being good for either filter or espresso but not both, or else have a history of mechanical difficulties like the Varia VS3 and to a lesser extent the Lagom Mini.

I'm constantly on the search for roasters that are working with producers to do interesting things in the world of coffee, particularly with a focus on the fermentation aspect. Of course, I'm very familiar with the roasters in my area, but I'm looking to widen my net a bit. I've got setups for both pourover and espresso, so suggestions for both are welcome!
