I love Liv for Cakes. I've made five or six of her cakes now. They taste great and they're decorated so simply, yet elegantly. Unfortunately this cake didnt come out so great. Obviously I was unable to get a nice mottled effect in the icing, that's on me. But the cake was flavorless, and for that I blame, not Liv, but Lor-Ann.

I've tried another cotton candy flavoring that was strong. I've used other Lor-ann flavorings that were strong. But there's no cotton candy flavor in this cake. The frosting tastes like butter. Thankfully I put a layer of strawberry crunch between the layers, so that gives a little flavor.

Recipe. This was easy to make and really tasty. Reminiscent of corn bread and the vanilla gives a nice sweetness. Small eggs aren't a thing here, so I just used egg yolks (saving my whites for buttercream) but i think it would be just as good with whole large eggs. Last time I made an egg-stuffed muffin it was so dry. These are moist.

I've been wanting to try these gorgeous viral blueberry cookies for ages and this was the perfect challenge. Unfortunately, the coloring didn't happen for me. Not sure what went wrong. I used some cannabutter in them, but I think the frozen blueberries I used just didn't get jammy enough. They taste good.

A very hearty oat bread that was simple to cook in a skillet. Served best with butter and black currant jam!

I didnt personally combine recipes, but this recipe is a beautiful, tasty fusion of smores and blondies.

Savory crepes with spinach

Sweet cheese blintzes.

Used whole wheat for the savory crepes, and they tend to fall apart. Fillings were both good.

My bake was supposed to be based on this recipe. Maybe if you're an experienced pie baker you can tell what's wrong, but I had to mix the dough before I realized the recipe is hot garbage. No pie dough is remotely that wet.

I know Tasty is not considered a reliable recipe source, but it says this recipe is from Lokokitchen, the writer behind Pieometry. I got that book last Christmas but hadnt made anything from it yet. So I switched to following the crust recipe from the book, using the compound beet butter I'd already made based on the web recipe. I turned the failed crust dough into cookies.

I used this blueberry filling and the whole thing came out lovely and delicious.

Recipe

Pretty good for an upside down cake. Moist.

Recipe. Inspired by Mercutio's speech in Romeo and Juliet. It's a stretch, but the cake was good. Especially if you like desserts that aren't too sweet.

This is inspired by the reddit community r/52weeksofbaking. I asked for the mods' blessing to copy the sub on lemmy and never received a response. Since I've been a prolific contributor for over 3 years and I even proposed several of the challenges for 2023, I don't mind just copying out the rest of this years challenges. For 2024 we can come up with our own list.

Edit: I have since received a response from the mods, and it was as gracious and generous as I could have hoped for. They gave their blessing and posted a link to this community on reddit.
